Walldreams 2.0 is still going strong, more or less. The main wall is complete, now begining to add drop traps to the main gates, in case any building destroyers think to smash down the portcullises. I had neglected to change the Gather Refuse from Outside order, so that caused a bit of problem with them dumping objects(currently just corpses and trash, but I am making giant axe blades to drop down) into the chute. Eventually I'll add towers and hoarding, then begin to construct much-needed residences.

Would it be offensive to make a thread called "Nazi Science" where I document my Nazi fort's cruel and unusual experiments on captured elves, goblins and kobolds? It'll yield important scientific discoveries, of course... it's all for science >:D

For the record, we already "annexed" 2 elven caravans and one human caravan (the Reich needed their goods more than they needed our money).

Edit: Lemme rephrase that: would it be TOO offensive?

The current fiasco can be chalked up to bad planning and a ridiculously short air-drown time for Giant Sponges.

It began when I embarked to this wonderful little spot atop a cliff overlooking a fork in a major stream. My position was easy to fortify and has endured three Goblin sieges in a row while I fixed internal issues and continued to improve the quality of life in the fort. However, as soon as the sieges left and I fortified further out to begin the great Sponge Trapping Project, things began to go wrong.

My waterwheel system was all set up to drain the river (or so I thought). My miner was set to channel the block under the sponge. The door was in place to keep the pond from overflowing and the cage traps were open wide right beneath for a quick capture. All I had to do was pierce the dark underbelly of the river to drop the beast into a cage, and then turn on the machine to stop the river flow while I patched the hole.

The sponge died moments after capture. Apparently it airdrowned in 0.05 seconds. Then a foolish attempt to fix the hole from below ended with a drowned hauler. (He got drafted to remove a section of ramp.) Finally, my containment unit on the river failed, and spewed water all over the plains outside. None of my dwarves will go dismantle any portion of the machine so I can't stop it. I'm not sure how to fix this. Oh, and on top of that, the second giant sponge in the river airdrowned when I started the machine because I forgot I was going to try for both of them.

Ah well. At least there were no tantrum spirals this time. One drowned hauler is probably worth the lessons I'm learning. *sigh*

I had hoped this would be the fortress where everything went right, and all appearances seemed to indicate it was. ...but that's not the point, now, is it? The point is fun. Lots and lots of losing fun.

I shall now embark on a plan to test various methods outlined in the Child Care thread. 64/125 dwarves are children, so I think I have the population for it. *dark glare*

So... I embarked in an area to test out some mods, and saw that an adventurer of mine was there. And insane. I don't even.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The second I embarked she went mad. I have no idea why, her thoughts screen is more or less empty. Just says that she's an enemy of everyone and idolized by everyone else, and lists her stats. Usually adventurers are fine when they show up on a map. Though usually they show up in a migrant wave, not randomly standing around in at the embarkment year 1. Though I forcibly embarked on the town I retired her in, which is why she was already there.

Maybe that had something to do with it?

E: Tried embarking again. This time she spawned several Z-levels above the ocean, Stark Raving Mad. Plummeted to her death.

Fine, is "Soapyboar: The Knotsea Death Camp" a better title? I have a lot of scientific discoveries to make XD

I have a blob of fire with tentacles sitting on the edge of my map so now im looking for a solution to get rid of him my army wont attack. So i am working on a shotgun and thinking of using dwarves as ammunition. Anyone know a good way to grind dwarves into small bits?

Something that will make my dwarves into ammo for a minecart shotgun, 23 babies and 28 children are ready for assembling into ammo

Have to think of a creative way to kill a vampire queen. She's eating my dwarves. Based on the legends, whereupon she killed 7000 dwarves in a single town, she's gunna cause trouble. :|

Why not lock her up in a noble quarter and feed her children and babies?  :D

Since she can breathe underwater (or rather, not breathe at all and be fine), you should build a giant, opulent aquarium out of crystal glass to keep her in.
