I have 82 bars of llama soap.

Look at my works, ye mighty, and despair.

I have chronic problems with my expedition leader, broker, manager, bookkeeper actually showing up to the Depot, so I looked through my useless females for someone to be manager, bookkeeper.  My candidate likes electrum, so I ordered a medium vein of limonite mined.

After wondering why gold nuggets were not a smelting option, I did a quick DF hack check and then mined a couple corridors in the level where galena was.  Not expecting to find anything, I also queued up some green glass tables and  hairs.  Sure enough, I found some gold, and one of the electrum thrones turned out to be a masterpiece!

I'm currently build a grand fort (on it's second year), with a giant tower-like entrance, an artificial river for the water source for my hospital, and a giant meeting room. I should get a Medal, I have 52 dwarves AND 0 IDLERS.

I started a fort in a terrifying biome. I expected it to be over fast, but it's not reanimating and the evil rain doesn't have a syndrome (although it's dwarf blood). After a year, things were going fine (32 dwarves), until a necromancer siege shows up. One necromancer got killed by a hunter fast, and the other one ran off. Unfortunately, the zombies stayed. They proceded to kill 10 dwarves, including a legendary miner. Finally, it was over. Then a dwarf moods and kills the carpenter for bones.

Well, I have learned to always carefully watch my water tank, even if trading is ongoing. Because while I caught it before it got too extreme, well...

It's going to be a bit before the hospital is dry I think...

Year 16 in Relicblaze.

The initial generation of child immigrants and children born in the fortress are coming of age.  They get sent to make 300-400 copper bolts and then are assigned to a military training squad to start learning weapons and armor use.  In their off months they do hauling work and miscellaneous jobs.

Four FB in the caverns so far this year.  Fortress meat supply over 3000 units with the most recent butchering of a giant one-eyed pigeon.  Over thirty FB and minotaurs have been killed here so far.

A goblin siege turned up as well.  Max size with five cavalry squads and 24 ogres.  The water gun emplacement wrecked havoc and pushed about forty goblins and mounts into the pit while killing another ten or so outright.  The ones in the pit, interestingly enough, they are not drowning despite the water being over 7 units deep.  Marksdwarves and traps killed most of the rest.

An interesting cleanup issue was noted.  It appears there is a known bug where water pushing items can cause them to become hidden.  Which in the tunnel appears to include corpses since there are huge miasma clouds there with no apparent source.  Just going to keep the workers out until it subsides.  Plenty of other areas to clean up in the mean time as it is.

This is my third fortress as of right now. The first 2 died to a goblin ambush and a failure to breach the aquifer, respectively.

I am following the guide at http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Quickstart_guide and after getting through that I read lots of other info in the wiki and referred back to this forum to get answers to other questions.

Used the guide's recommended world settings and found a pretty good embark location; Temperate Swamp biome, Calm, No Aquifer, Soil, Metals and (I think) supposedly flux stone. No iron or flux stone to be found anywhere yet but lots of copper, silver, and gold. Survived many minotaur attacks and a few Goblin sieges, at first by hiding in the fort during the first siege, but now I've got a 6-wide entry tunnel with traps on the shorter half of the tunnel (so enemies pathfind into them) and fortifications in the other side for marksdwarves to shoot at. I haven't seen any true megabeasts or titans yet.

I killed a force of 6 Trolls and over 20 Gobbos with just 10 marksdwarves and some cage & stonefall traps. More recently a minotaur was attacking and, while he was delayed by war dogs guarding the entrance, marksdwarves were on their way to the fortifications. There was only one dwarf there when he came around the corner, but the dwarf scored a headshot with the first copper bolt, tearing into the brain and killing the minotaur in a single shot. It felt pretty epic, I wished I'd gotten a screenshot. I'm just now starting to build a simple outdoor pillbox for archers as suggested at http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Security_design#Simple_5x5_Archer.27s_Tower

So I have quite a few dwarves and such (including 40 full-time military dwarves) and this is the 6th year. However, I have been conservative in my digging (only 12 z-levels down so far) so I haven't breached the caves or circus yet. Maybe I am being too cautious. How am I doin'?

Several kids are old enough to fight now so in response to an ogre (that has since been brutally put down by my bladesdorfs) beating a marksdwarf to death while he was bringing some leftover crude weapons in from an ambush the home caravan trashed, 've organized them into a sort of peasant levy. On still need to be issued their gear and will have to make due with a rusty goblin crossbow, but it'll be better than nothing when the orcs and automatons come for us.

An Embassy and guild hall along with a large miltary base have been built, coupled with a chemist and alchemical station as well. Teduk and Bomrek have opened their doors and Bomrek has purchased all our chitinplate. We still need gold coin to begin garrison and guild training.

I'm glad we have a filled moat and all the gates hooked up.

Seaking of which, I just got a visit from stranglers! Two squads of bladesdorfs and backup marksdwarvs vs the a horde of monkeymen., taking all bets!

Why thank you.

I just threw a mine out and evidently it must've been too cold for it to cook the bastards (it was a firemine.)

The first bladesdwarf as made contact, with several stranglers taking hits from the two traps by the gate, one losingtwo arms and another being disembowled. Speaking of which, apparently a half dozen goblins weren't very bright (even for goblins) and had been blundering into the same two traps without my even noticing.

A copper bolt just took one out of the battle; evidently it had low pain tolerance- Wow that was quick.

8 killed out of 41 and they bolted. Kinda anticlimactic but at least it was useful training for the troops, as meager as it was.

Someone other than my expedition leader became mayor.  Replaced.  I liked the expedition leader's preferences.

Military is up to 20 dwarfs.  They killed the first FB, a hill titan with scales that spit frozen chunks of phlegm.  Speaking of the mayor, she likes longswords, but the first human caravan did not have one.  I plan to make her into a squad of one for solitary weapon drills to become useful someday.

The drow came and a pushed some crap from them, and we hit the caverns; evidently there was a massive pit that hit the second layer, I think. The place is a haze of rotting vermin remains. However there's deposits of sphalerite, aluminum, tungsten/wolfram, cobalt, and more copper ore.

when i have legendary marksdwarves and lashers wielding silver whips? i got a new artifact now. Medtobothduk, the Blockaded moment the silver whip.

meanwhile, Ases the minotaur grew into an adult. i immediately threw him down into the crocodile pit.

I finally got a king... who had all farming labors enabled. He seems to be a pretty chill king who likes backpacks and thrones. Now he's got a gold throne.

Killed some more forgotten beasts. One had to be done via DFHack, since the bastard would just fly away after raining deadly dust(actually deadly in 100% of cases). Another managed to sneak in when I wasn't looking and ate a dwarf kid. Then he ate a goat kid. Then he ate an axe to the head.

Trying to produce large amounts of metal, but for some reason the furnace operators are running outside the fortress to grab ore, despite the large stockpile nearby that has everything they need.

Had to kill a human merchant and burn his wagon since he was blocking the dwarf caravan. Hopefully, this won't lead to war. I'd hate to have to set the world on fire with out magma pump.

I checked the gamelog, and believe it or not, my mace lord actually scored some genuine headshots with the styrofoam mace. I'm not prepared to do the kind of sifting necessary to do a real kill count, but I get the sense that most if not all of her kills were legit. Granted, for every headshot that killed there were three that just bruised the bone.
"These foam bats work even better if you take the foam off!"
Also, the kills might be from punches, kicks, or shieldbashes.

I'm in the same situation as well, a human caravan wagon got stuck in the wagon only entrance-exit. I tried opening up other pathways in the hope that it would recalculate, didn't work, now I'm going to deconstruct part of the floor of that entrance to get it unstuck.

I was creating an archery platform at the second cavern level in preparation for baiting and killing a FB with deadly dust when I accidentially channeled a bit of floor which had a wall under it. I quickly tried to build a fortification on it before the FB attacked, but too late. I mobilized the military while it chased some miners around and apparently the marksdwarves hadn't even gotten their ammo (they had been on inactive because of training problems).

Anyways, the military got there and started pounding away with the crossbows and striking with the swords, meanwhile, during and near the end of the fight, a brave miner had gone down to rescue two of his comrades, although the rescue was in vain, the two miners died from the paralysis effects of the FB dust extract. Lost 4 of my miners, 3 of the marksdwarves and one of the swordsdwarves to the fB, only one of them was actually struck down by the FB, the rest through the paralysis effects of the dust.

Also, it appears that the extract only takes effect when you breathe it in since the extract dust is coating lots of stuff, but the half expected epidemic of paralysis didn't happen.

Meanwhile, the dwarven caravan arrived shortly after the fight and collided with the human caravan who decided to actually leave just then. Attempting to get them unstuck in some way right now and winter has arrived on the calendar. I'm also setting up a lava dumpsite to dump the stuff into in case the wagons break and spill stuff everywhere. :P
