Greetings builders of great fortresses.

My name is photas an i present you: the diary of my new fortress.
Have !!Fun!!

This is the beautiful realm: Mon Sagus, The Planes of Dawn.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The world consists of multiple mountain ranges in the icy cold north and the scorching hot south. There are many planis, forests rivers and seas that make the lands of great beauty. Also no evil areas are present.
Mon sagus has only 20 years of history, so my fortress will be one of the first in the world.

if you want the world gen parameters:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The dwarven civilization i will be joining is: The Avalanche of Heathers.

Some info from Legends Viewer:
The civilization has 5 sites: Plankworked, Glazedslips, Confinedtomb, Bowelletter and Climaxorb.
The civilization has 283 dwarves, 50 yaks, 49 cats, 34 chickens, 33 rabbits and some other domestic animals.

My fortress will be next to one of the other sites of The Avalanche of Heaters, in the bearded jungles, a temperate but cold conifer forest. The stream: The Venerable Berries, splits on the site into another stream: Bushgross the Foolish Ash. There are slight hills on the north side of the area but i's not very mountainous.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

According to DFHack, the site does contain a flux: Chalk. Also iron in the form of Limonite is present so the making of steel is a possibility. Further ores are: Tetrahedrite (copper and silver), Galena (lead and silver) and Garnierite (nickel). The soil contains sand, but no clay, so the making of glass is possible, but clay has to be traded.

Okay now that the 7 brave dwarves have chosen a location for the fortress, it's time to see to the preparations we need to make.
The dwarves that will be the first to inhabit the new site are:
Cilob Noghmukat: Miner
Tholtig Berlor: Miner
Erib Dishmabstigaz: Woodcutter/Appraiser
Kadol Olonzalis: Carpenter
Kadol Isosterith: Mason
Zulban Stinthadrovod: Cook/Butcher
Minkot Tosidatast: Hunter

They will not take too many items with them, only the much needed ones like: some picks, an axe, crossbow bolts and quiver, some food and    drink. No animals will be brought An anvil and other needed items will be bought of the trade caravan that is to arrive in the late Autumn.

It has been decided that the new fortress will be named: Lokumzuden - Spearkeeper.
The group is named: Zustash Thikut - The Ancient Books.

After the final preparations the 7 dwarves have left the mountainhomes. On the 1st of Granite, 21 they arrive at Lokumzuden. The air is cold, but the snow and ice from the winter have just melted. The dwarves discover that there is a small waterfall where the streams split. The two streams divide the land in a greatly defensible area. this is where the dwarves will stop and make plans for one of the greatest places  on Mon Sagus.

End of entry 1 - 1st granite, 21 -

Well I put in a side entrance but never got around to putting in the artifact door... (was too busy expanding my automated molten rock accelerating death trap AMRADT.)

So an elven ambush waltzes riding giant EVERYTHING. Totally unprepared for this, mass draft time.

Kosotherlin, "Palacehigh" is running a mist generator now. I never knew how much happiness they generate, it's crazy.

Yeah, I like large giant dwarven halls with pillars. And everywhere's statues telling stories of epic battles.
The gundams are my marksdwarf force, my only military. When there's any danger, they overwatch the bridge leading to my fort. And every goblin that survives and thinks he would escape just runs into my War Alligator hive.

One fresh install later and Treefurnace is founded. It said there was a cave here, and it lied. All i got was a bachelor pack of badgers and a tribe of trogs just chilling on the surface in the snow. I brought some spears and speardorfs who i hastily got to a base skill in mining and tree killing respectively to avoid the bad thoughts for when they finish killing the trogs of going off duty with no job.

I was so pleased by the random name I decided to name the group The Destroyers of Oak and intend to do my utmost to piss the barkeaters off to the point of open conflict. I've also decide for added challenge, that all family dorfs will get a full housing unit, with a 3x3 master bedroom, two 2x3 rooms for childeren, a dining room, and a common area dwarves from the family and in general can mingle. Single orfs will be living in either a temporary housing unit ( dorm of course) or a single 2x3 apartment with only basic space for a box to admire, a cot, and a cabinet nowhere they'll live until they die or get married.

I suspect  the goblins will get us first though before we can get the elves angry enough to declare war.

EDIT: My Colonel and his one subordinate are lovers. So I have a battle couple already. Not uh.... Not sure if that's awesome or horrible.

- 6th Granite, 21-
Today we have completed the construction of a wooden bridge that connects the 2 sides of the stream. Now we will continue felling the trees and getting our equipment off the wagon.

-10th slate, 21
Our diggers have made a big space not too deep underground, we have moved all our equipment inside and have started farming plump helmets, hunting and making basic wooden items and tools.

-1st felsite, 21-
You have struck Limonite!
The prospectors have not lied to us, embedded within chalk! Now we have all the resources for mighty dwarven steel.
We started digging further down, into the stone. The plan is to eventually have mighty halls and corridors underground to house over a hundred dwarves. But much is needed to be done before that time shall come.

-13th felsite, 21-
We have begun digging out stockpile rooms. This will take a long time as the stone is quite dense and the rocks have to be removed in order for there to be enough space. We think the slate can be used for big walls between the two streams, this will give us the needed defense until we have a functioning military.

-1st hematite, 21-
Summer has arrived. Spring has been easy on us. No dangerous wildlife and no sign of any kobold activity yet. Th construction of the stockpiles is slow but ongoing. We think to be done next month.

-23th hematite, 21-
Some migrants have arrived!
5 dwarves are adventurous enough to join us. We have decided that one will be a fisherdwarf and another a fish cleaner. Thinkut has brought a pickaxe and will join our miners downstairs.

Our temporary underground area with workshops, farm and stockpile.

Fortressbowel, pop 213, year 23.

The clothing crisis appears to have ended with a death toll of around 27 dwarves total. This figure includes the long time mayor Ablel Flagsalve who was punched in the brain in her own house by the dwarf she was having a meeting with. It also includes several berserk dwarves put down by security, melancholics dehydrating to death, murderers executed by hammering and neglected prisoners.

Our cloth stockpile is depleted thanks to frantic clothmaking, we were forced to spend part of our leather stock into making shoes and trousers aswell.

Mood in the fortress is much improved, with only 2 dwarves reported as miserable and only 7 unhappy ones down from 50 miserable dwarves at the peak of the crisis.

Geshud Lovelyfigure, a political opponent of Ablel Flagsalve has used the chaos to climb back into the Mayor's seat and is rousing the rabble against the Monarchy and its excessive gauntlet mandates.

All things said, things could have gone much, much worse.

Over at Axeworshipped, our Captain of the Guard is a freaking hero. Back during "the Gory Assault" about a year ago, he alone fought off the goblins who made it through the traps - including a cave dragon - and a while later he personally killed every greenskin who escaped during the setup of the Great Goblin Grinder (aka the easiest and most bloody way to kill captured gobbos). His iron short sword menaces with well-crafted spikes of fox bone.

Just recently, he threw a tantrum. Claimed to be embarrassed because of being uncovered. I checked his inventory and he seemed just fine. I went off to prepare the prison and the next mine shafts, until it dawned on me. He was missing trousers. The great hero of Axeworshipped, the Silvery Complexity of Imprisoning, had been running around without pants. :P

At 8000 prepared meals, my food stockpile is still not full. My cooks are working full-time to convert the raw meat and imported delicacies into awesome FortressFood™ roasts. The cave dragons, rutherers and giant toads that died during the last siege have contributed considerably to this, and as a bonus the hospital is well-stocked with cave dragon soap.

EDIT: As I checked the invader list for the current siege, I was surprised. It announced the presence of "Sledbu Ozudnusta Gunzodostngosp, master". No wonder it went straight through the traps - it's an enormous one-eyed lizard twisted into humanoid form! Its gray scales are small and close-set! Beware its poisonous sting! The goblins came with their damn demon master!

I wonder if my CotG can kill him...

EDIT2: His Temporarily Pantsless Awesomeness didn't manage to kill the demon, but the hastily mobilized hunters and a squad of inexperienced warriors did. In the end it was the hunters who were responsible for his doom - copper bolts crippled his legs, and a bronze bolt to the head ended his demonic life. I will erect a memorial to his coming, and to the dwarves who died defending the fortress. Sletbu Ruthlesswarned the Nasty Cruelty, your deeds and those of your slayers will be engraved into the walls of this fort so that the following generations may remember this battle!

Okay, it is currently Spring of Wounddrinks' eighth year. Nothing too exciting has happened so far. Occasionally a kobold pops up, or a wild animal from the caverns runs up the central stairwell and smashes a baby's brain in, but that's not all that interesting. The main is that I'm starting up a ceramic industry. I've already got clay laying around, so I'm putting it to use. I'm only making earthenware bricks right now, as my many constructions are eating through my stone supplies like crazy. But soon ceramics will join the list of goods that Wounddrinks exports.

Also, Wounddrinks has a population of 185, 89 of which are children and babies. I can't wait until those little useless idiots grow up so that they become slightly larger useful idiots.

ContestedRopes, 3rd month, less than 20 dwarves.
A Giant Hornet Queen cut in half at our entrance. Pieces of Giant hornets workers everywhere.
These 4 copper sawblades costed us a lot, but were worth it... Last time, a small band of dudes tried to build an above-ground fort, and got slaughtered by these things.
A sting of the small ones is horribly painful, i don't want to imagine what these guys felt in their last seconds...
Now that the entrance is secured by a sealable trapped bunker, the overseer has ordered we build fortification, ballistae trenches and barbed wires, set-up a kill-zone, and take our revenge on avenge their memory on anything that moves.

Lokumzuden
-21th malachite, 21-
We had not heard of the miners the whole day. When i got down to look i saw that the whole cave was full of water. They must have dug into an aquifer. The miners are lost and without them, we are lost too. We must abandon the fortress and report to the king.
