There are 200+ articles of clothing within 7 squares of the trade depot. I guess it pays to have your fort's "Last Stand" right in the Depot area. Now, if only some necromancer traders would come, then I could offload the dozens of corpses/skeletons within 7 squares too.

Relicshield, pop. 112, Late Winter of 277 (Year 26)

The Dragon Mistrum Ebbakrulu Kara Ves has come!  A gigantic reptilian creature.  It is magical and can breath fire.  These monsters can live for thousands of years.

The alert was sounded and the army was ordered back to the inner keep... but Datan Blockadequickness had been lazing about and didn't respond in time.

The outcome heralded the Second Age of Legends (my first time getting an in-game changes of Ages).

The very first siege arrived, very much overdue in my opinion. Consisted of only one squad of axegoblins, with a hammergoblin in lead. Upon entering combat with my 8 squads, most of whom are mostly clad in high-quality bronze, the SIEGE tag disappeared, and they broke ranks and fled. Most were killed while fleeing. I lost one dwarf from the Fortress Guard(which shouldn't have been in the battle, oops), plus the captain of the guard lost her right hand, neither of whom had any armor(either on them or in their uniform). During the confusion, two kobold thieves tried to sneak into my magma workshop area, only to be brought down by marksdwarves grabbing some more ammo, and a few recruits who were late showing up to the party(possibly because they were coming from an actual party at a -gneiss table-).

While human merchants were arriving, my barony got under siege by goblins with 107 invaders total (15 trolls and full squads of mace, axe, hammer and pike gobos; being led by sword, lasher and pike masters and a elite bowman) with the general, Lida the Elf, leading the assault. The entire elf race will pay for this treachery!
While I'm certainly not going to say anything about violence towards elves, their leader probably was kidnapped as a child, and raised to be a goblin soldier.

This happened some time ago, but what the hey.

A minotaur(forgot the name) slowly stalked towards the fort and spotted it's first victim. A child lay terrified by his dog. The dog rushed towards the minotaur, who then picked it up, ripped it's head off, and began beating the child with his pet dog's corpse.
The minotaur took a step forward and was ripped apart by candy blades of a trap.

Later, another minotaur with a similar name came. Deciding it was a relative hoping for compensation, I gave it some minotaur roasts. It didn't like them so much it died

So, was playing Masterwork DF and decided to embark on a cave; I unpaused and all of a sudden, wilhelm scream. This is followed by me conscripting all my dwarves into the military and ordering them to kill the DROWSPIDERS that we embarked RIGHT NEXT TO.

Needless to say, we didn't even strike the earth. Well, there might've been a dent made by a dwarf's head hitting the ground.  :P

I'm not sure this amount of giggling is entirely sane. Also, I only worried for a moment, and only because I thought he was one of my founders... nope. Just some shmuck migrant.

Relicshield, pop. 116, Mid-Autumn of 280 (Year 29)

For nearly a decade, the underground trade network fell into disuse.  With several legendary warriors on patrol and marksdwarves watching from the eastern ramparts, the surface approach to Relicshield was secure.  Caravans with up to eight wagons traveled through the main entrance which stood open day and night.  Then the Evils of Spray declared all-out war against the Steel of Winds, sending horde after horde of goblins and trolls to assail the fortress.  Though it struck deep into the pride of the dwarves, it was decided to abandon the eastern outpost completely.

Over the better part of a year, the spoils of war were gathered from the battlefield while the ramparts were cleared.  The trade tunnels were put back into full use, though wagons have since been banned.  They were found to be far too slow and cumbersome to guard between sieges, and the human caravan's departure was getting ever closer to the Mountainhome merchants' arrival with each passing year.  With lighter loads and faster pack animals, trade has remained lucrative.

Now the trade network has been repurposed for war.  A larger cave-in trap, longer marksdwarf fortifications, and a ballista battery have been created.  The Steel of Winds lost their holdings to the east, but the Evils of Spray will gain no further ground!

You can use the [img] tag, or combine it with the [spoiler] tag if the image is especially large.

Swordgleams spent much of Year 4 preparing for the next goblin siege after the near miss in Year 3.  An outer set of archery bunkers were constructed (or more accurately, completed) to put a larger area under potential crossbow fire.  Some initial walls were put up to channel attackers close to bunkers or into the marshy areas around ponds lying to the east and west of the main keep.

Further armor and weapon production got the melee units armed with steel and some even having steel breastplates over their mail.  A third "rookie" marksdwarf squad was added and given piles of wooden bolts to practice with.  The two veteran marksdwarf squads were shifted to metal bolts and given more time for weapon and dodge training over range time.

A trap complex was started in the caverns after a second monster appeared there.

The goblins probed the new defenses in late summer with a group of snatchers and a couple of ambush teams.  They were slaughtered in the south courtyard by a combination of metal spiked ball traps and marksdwarf fire.

Autumn passed peacefully with a fresh shipment of iron ore from the Mountainhome.  Between this and a selection of steel armor being available for trade the Foundry was finally able to start producing armor on a more consistent basis.  Steel was reserved for melee units while the marksdwarves received bronze equipment.

The goblins arrived in late winter led by their general - a traitorous dwarf!  Four squads of mounted cavalry escorted by a few units of war elk birds.  A formidable number of foes.

The rookie marksdwarf squad was sent to an outer bunker via tunnel to harass the goblin crossbow squad.  The two veteran squads assembled in galleries and fortifications near the south courtyard to await the goblin advance.  The two most experienced melee squads were positioned near the main gate as a reserve.

The goblin attack itself was haphazard.  The crossbow squad was suppressed by crossbow fire far from the courtyard as the rookie marksdwarves dropped mounts and wounded goblins.  The two squads to the east got mired trying to pass through and around the ponds.  This left the general's squad and the elk birds making the main assault into traps and the concentrated fire of ten marksdwarves.  The general and most of his squad go down.   The marksdwarves then move to an eastern archery bunker and rout the squads still hung up in the ponds.  22 goblins killed for no dwarven fortress casualties.

The goblins try again immediately in the last spring of Year 5.

Again with four squads of cavalry.  This time including an elite bow goblin and supported by war giant olms and war giant cave spiders.

While the goblins are still approaching and the marksdwarves head to the bunkers a minotaur appears to join the fun.  He immediately draws the attention of the giant cave spiders, is buried and webs, bitten multiple times in the head, and killed.  The delay, however, allows a marksdwarf squad to start fletching the spiders and they don't make it far.  The goblin assault itself doesn't go well, with another 20 goblins killed for little gain.  Two marksdwarves get leg wounds due to the elite bow goblin, but are treated and recovering.  The melee squads get some useful experience mopping up the stragglers in the south courtyard.

The goblinite so far is still just copper and silver.  It appears that only the dwarves have iron, much less steel.

Forced underground by Goblin Raiders. Living in a large cavern with fresh water (I'm assuming a bug) and have modded cannibalism in to make sure my Dwarves don't starve..

Thank God. Migrants. Now the adult population is up from 7 to 27, so things are actually functional. I guess it means that the meeting with the dwarf liason was successful last season. That was the only successful thing that the dwarves did last season, because the livestock population and ghost population is still growing.
One of the migrants is the younger brother of a Majesty resident, so I brought him and his wife over. Also brought over another dwarf whose only relation was with his deity. Maybe he brought dishonor to his family or something.

EDIT: Migrant militia killed a forgotten beast. A blob with 3 tails. Yes, just a blob with 3 scrawny tails. No, not you. You're too cool to have your attacks deflected by a llama wool hoodie.
