Giant Cave Swallows are killing my dwarves with _MIND POWERS_

One is deep in a cavern but just killed, and got a title for, slaughtering a dwarven child in a completely different part of my fort.

All my dwarves are being constantly interrupted by it...

So far, my dwarves have killed and eaten two Forgotten Beasts, and a third is wandering around in the caverns.

Hi!

Having finished my wall, I have ordered a lot of wood stockpiles to bring all the wood lying around outside inside. I have already turned on invaders, hoping that the two rows of weapon traps will protect my dwarves from the goblin ambushes (that are two rows of three traps each, each trap fully stacked with bronze and steel giant axe blades).

Well, the goblin civ is listed on my civ screen now, but thus far, nothing bad has happened. I only wish my dwarves would hurry up with those logs (and ignore all the elephant skeletons lying around the traps (^_^;; ).

Cleaning up after a troll attack. Calling myself all sorts of names for embarking on a nicely frozen glacier and needing to pierce the first cavern layer just to grow food. Having a panic attack from the confirmed presence of GCS near by farm area. Frantically designating walls to enclose farm area. Dispatching the troll was FUN enough for the moment.

Built an automatic immigrant airlock, involving a clever system of pressure-plate triggered drawbridges guarding a meeting space accessible to the outside, with access controlled by a door linked to the main entrance drawbridge to permit safe entry to the fortress while the main gates are closed.  Then I discovered a few things about the latest revision:  First, certain creatures are much faster than they used to be, and can run across two ten tile long bridges in less than the 100 cycle delay for a pressure plate.  Second, pressure plates set to trigger for citizen only actually trigger for both citizens and non-citizens alike now.  This resulted in a goblin ambush being deposited in fortress interior.  Third, war dogs are now useless against goblins as their teeth are unable to penetrate silk clothing.  The same also goes for the wolves and giant jaguars the elves sold me.

I  settled on a glacier, dug streight down to the magma. Massive ford with 100 dwarfs.

I end up battling some goblins and a blizzard man in the snow on top. Little did I know it was winter, and a snow storm happened. Half of my dwarfs suffert frost bite; they have partial paralyses in their legs and feet and head(?), they move 1/10 of their normal speed, are sick and drowsy and are running a fever. They're all covered in frozen forgotten beast blood.

I'm doomed!

The game just died on me.
Crashed.
And it hath been some time since my last save.

But oooohhh well, nothing of great importance was lost, just have to dig few bedroms and forge some armour again so it is fine for now.

Finally got a good start, nice walled in cavern settlement, good industries movin along, about to bring some magma into the smelters...funny, should've seen a caravan by now.  And why haven't i gotten migrants in the last six seasons?  I go to check the civ screen

...and i'm apparently out of dwarves.  No more migrants.  On the civ screen, my dwarven civ has "no important leaders".
More dwarves will never come, we are all that's left!

goddammit.

Cave Swallow men with spears attacking the elven caravan. most amusing. though a wild one (not part of the unnamed swallow man nation) shattered one of my dwarves stomach.

Good news: Found some magnetite for my metalworking people to use. Finally got an anvil, so that I can start making iron and copper stuff.
Bad news: Goblin ambush killed my legendary miner whilst he/she was out building an above-ground extension to the fort [as well as a fisherdwarf but that didn't hurt me as much, really]. At least my other miner is still ecstatic due to the engraving-covered dining room I have, so that's a plus. Also run out of alcohol for a short while, but then a harvest came in and the crisis was averted.

My surface fort keeps crashing at a certain time of the year.  Seems to be reported half a dozen times already with saves on the bug tracker.

...oh well, guess it's telling me that a fortress not built underground is a horrible elf thing that should be punished.

Construction of the new and improved industrial zone is wrapping up. For reasons unknown to man, it has been determined that the magma forges shall not merely be located over magma, they shall be surrounded on all sides, protected by glass walls and lack of magma pressure. Constructing the hamster maze to allow this to happen has proven incredibly difficult, but current plans call for the volcano to be allowed to refill itself within the year. Estimated death toll, extreme.

Yeah, not fun.  My warbear has been doing well, but I wonder if she's just been lucky knocking goblins in the head.

i recently had to deal with 4 troglodites - i made the mistake of sending in dorfs armed with bone crossbows and dogs- the battle lasted 3 seasons - 4 dead troglodites - 2 dead dogs, 6 dorfs needing surgery (so will soon be dead).

luckly i now have a pet dragon to deal with future problems but to whom do i assign it?
