I want to put it in my garbage dump to have an eternal war with the dead snatchers/theives that keep reviving.

Dunno, never done it before.

Anyhoo, I had a rather disruptive siege. It ended but the Tantrum sprial has cut a swathe trhough the Fort, then a FB got out of the caverns (cancelled job to attach a bridge to a lever), then a Minotaur appeared while the FB was attacking. There are corpses and ghosts all over. Although on the plus side I did just breach the Magma Sea and found a spire of Candy.

And now, a Miner has entered a fell mood ... he has claimed a Tannery... and is working on a Dwarven-Child Corpse...

Such unholy desicration has born "Anur Sogdol , The Wonder of Famines", a Dwarf Bone Crown, decorated with Dwarf bone.

At least he's now a Legendary Bone Carver ... legendary for all the wrong reasons though.

That's a really good question... Do sponges get pushed around by shallow flowing water like other creatures?  If so you might be able to pierce the river underneath and use a system of floor hatches to capture one.

Something like this maybe...

where ç are two sets of lever controlled floor hatches.  Dig into the river from below and open the hatch at the far end of the tunnel draining the water pulled in.  The sponge should get pulled in as well and pulled towards the cage trap (^) once captured open the two hatches (it could work with one but thinking 2 to be sure) before the cage trap and the water should drain out before the cage allowing retrieval.  Once you have your sponge close all the hatches and the elves will never even know you were there.

P.S. See signature for disclaimer.

Afterthought: Might want to make your drainage tunnel accessable too, just in case your guys don't close the hatch fast enough and the cage gets washed into it.

I have a cavern fort and made sure all of my dwarves had military skills on them.
one is a hunter, and the other six are hammerdorfs.
In my current science project I tested how could a cave croc fare against 6 copper warhammers. turns out they are really effective, made the same tests on a giant frog with the same results.

Best mayor so far in my fort, all he wants made is anvils.  Lots and lots of anvils.  So I made him the baron.

(The mayor that like picks was a closer runner-up, but that fort died an early death.)

Construction of the king's palace procedes apace at a... pace of some sort. Throne room is finished, completely paved over with gold and silver floors, as is the royal dining room which, despite having a rose gold table and chair(more chairs and tables will follow) and being exceptionally large despite only consisting of said table and chair, is only "Grand", as is the current temporary room the king is lodging in that has 4 rose gold statues. The floorplan of the royal residences are finished, but until I build the floor above, I can't move the king and queen consort into their rooms(one room for each).

The floor above will be residences for the princesses. The king has seven, 3 immigrated, one was born here, and the other three never arrived(dunno if they're alive). Of the three immigrant princesses, two were in the military, one was killed, the other is a legendary crutch-walker. I plan to set up some sort of memorial to the one that was killed, rather than a bedroom.

I had screenshots, but it appears I forgot to put them on my thumbdrive.

The size of the King's courtroom, itself?  Physical space, that which the dorfs cut out, smoothed and engraved, means only part of the grandiosity rating.  The item's, table, throne, bed, etc.., have a size, this is the size that determines the grandiosity rating, not the physical space.  Up the items range size to 10x10, from 3x3, and grandeur will improve, especially if that size includes engraved walls and jeweled doors.  Ya prolly know this, but in the event ya didn't.  Now ya do.  Take care.  Sincerely, Knutor

Ugh, heading into my fourth winter now, still no seige. I checked the civilization page: I think I'm at peace with the goblins? WTF? I want to test these the mettle of these fourty armed fools. Wirebronze now has a population of 115, and only one citizen dead, a victim of dehydration, not counting the few traders that seem to hang around on the edge of the map purely for cyclops/weremarmot bait. That said, it's taken four years to even speak to the outpost liason for some reason or another. He's hung around forever now and I've had people in positions to speak with him, but he only finally cornered the mayor a couple of days ago. The liason gushed and asked for a reccomendation to the barony, the mayor gave forth the name of the most unremarkable man possible, a recent immigrant whose only real skill is beginner's strand extraction. More importantly though the mayor let the mountain homes know we need flux stone, hopefully it will come sooner than later.

Speaking of steel, I'm starting to realize how jittery dwarves truly are. I've begun investigating the circus tent found during a cavern hunt. Hoping for target practice I began carving fortifications, but now a lone cat corpse stuck on a ledge is shutting down my operation. When I tell my marksdwarves to go deal with it though, they just go to the barracks en masse and start doing individual combat drills in the barracks. Please tell me they're just getting pumped up or w/e, because I'll be highly annoyed if they decide that shooting dead cats through cover is unsporting. Precious bins an food and such are already scattered all over the tunnel, and I'm sure the site of the awful creatures hasn't helped their fragile little psyches.

I have decided to Wallin my embark, all of it and incorporate the pyramid full of undead humans inro a garden feature. Much mining and annoyance from traders will no doubt ensue. Wonder just how much how this over sized 4x4 building I can build.

Also anyway to convert outside tagged tiles to interior tagged tiles? dhack?

Ill try that, might take a while, still have to finish my water delivery/ waterfall system and other assorted projects and me not being able to play as much as I would want to.

Might have to add more cages, due to the 3 or 4 thrips men fighitng it.

The horror!

In Riddlekeeper yet another necromancer is killed. That's the fourth so far. My 3-man recruit military is currently wiping the rest of necro's zombies.

EDIT: the corpses are still getting back up. I guess there is another necro around.

EDIT 2: Finally found the necromancer, but it's too late now. Only a bunch of children are alive.

FINAL EDIT: The last survivor, a child, managed to run all the way from the edge of the map to the hospital to take a nap there. Somehow avoiding getting mauled by the gigantic zombie horde. Then a ghost killed her.

Year 5 in Skullsgate has been busy!  And it's not over yet since Winter has just begun.

Industrial output going well with processing of metal from trade with the humans, dwarves, and goblins (if you want to call that trade).  Cloth and clay being produced in good quanitity and farm output has given the fortress a lot to drink and is also grinding flour and dye as well.  Mining in the northeast found lignite, casserite, and also hit a kimberlite vein that included yellow diamonds in it.  Galena and native gold mining cut back on due to the glut of bars on hand.

No elven traders this spring due to a goblin attack.  Three squads riding war giant rats appeared.  They harried around the back gate and then entered the main tunnel to the Trade Depot.  Apparently the goblin approach now is to clog the weapon traps with rat corpses in order to get through.  A few goblins were captured, as well as some of the rats.  The rest either limped off crippled or went down in a tunnel fight with the militia.  The fortress militia commander apparently has a knack for decapitation shots on rats.

The human caravan in the summer entered and immediately triggered a goblin ambush on the first wagon.  Things were not looking well until one of the yaks kicked the goblin squad leader hard enough to break his shoulder.  At which point he and his archer unit skedaddled.

The grand finale was saved for the fall dwarven caravan.  Right after it entered and headed for the main tunnel entrance the goblins threw the kitchen sink at the fortress and caravan.  The goblin general appeared; leading five full squads of mounted troops (rats, cave swallows, blind cave bears, giant olms, cave crocs, giant bats, and giant toads.)  Plus an additional giant rat squad to round things out.

They caught the caravan before it could get into the tunnel.  The dwarven guards put up a fight, but were simply overwhelmed.  (Though one axe dwarf took a leg off a goblin pikemaster first.)  The last wagon was taken out right at the entrance to the tunnel.  A second was taken out just inside the tunnel - due to the drawbridge going up and cutting it in half I think.  Three merchants and five guards were killed, with mounted goblins continuing to harry the merchants down the tunnel.

At this point the goblin's luck turned.  Those chasing the merchants were met by militia led by an axe lord and a sword master.  The rest of the goblins started throwing themselves into the weapon traps in the secondary tunnel.  (And in a byway a merchant yak dueled a giant bat - and the yak won.)  The goblin general opted to withdraw with two of the squads and the wounded, after which the militia mopped up the tunnel.

The caravan promptly left.  On the plus side the fortress picked up two wagon loads of goods and twenty sets of goblinite.  Also had to pick up the bits and corpses of about forty goblin mounts and caravan dray animals.

(masterwork)
Tangledhalls is in its 6th year and has recovered well from the devastating seige which ravaged my fortress 2 years ago.

60% of the military are now covered in steel armour and weapons which has drastically reduced casualities and maimings, I have also built a second outer defensive wall  and am starting to place towers for my marksdwarves.

The fort is now rich in rescources, gems and gold which have allowed me to trade for a variety of exotic animals, I now own two dragons which are chained up in the bowels of the fort as part of my Dragon breeding program.

My first megaproject is underway which is a great dwarven hall to be better then all before it,  have only completed the 1st two Z's however I plan to make a Great hall with engraved stone pillars and walls 10Z's deep, at one end is the entrance at the far end I plan to build a great golden palace for the king to live in.
Branching off  from the hall will be a great dwarven dining room with 100+ golden tables and chairs and a grand mausoleum for the forts most famous dwarves.

I expect it will take another 5 years ingame to complete the hall and its various rooms, currently my upper fortress levels are pretty crappy and not very lavish but the great lower fotress will make up for that.
