Searching for a GCS in the first cavern (I know you are there you bastard I found your webs), hoping that Jabberers live in the second cavern, trying to think of what to do with the captured Jabberer mounts from the goblins (probably butcher them), praying the Giraffes walk on my randomly placed cage traps and not more cavies (T_T), wondering if I should use my artifact cage as a trap or as a jail cell (Urist McPrisoner is upset about being confined. Urist McPrisoner is ecstatic about admiring an artifact cage recently.), and hoping to finish up my perimeter defenses before the next goblin siege.

Jail cell, obviously. Display in it the middle of your dining room as well so everyone can get happy thoughts about admiring the artifact cage :)

Got my king. I decided I should build a large palace for him. To do so, after about a year or two of channeling, I've finally finished cutting a chunk of mountain out to create a place for it.
Even the mountains themselves will bow down to their king. And it's not because he like alunite and rose gold, both of which are trivial to produce, it's not because of any historical feat. The reason this scrawny, brown-skinned, brass-eyed king whose medium-length hair is arranged in double braids, whose medium-length mustache and long beard are neatly combed, gets a palace is because he always snaps his fingers when he greets someone.

"*snap* Yo."

Some Stonesense images of the fort:

It took a few days real time to get that mountain carved, and constant attacks, ambushes, and kidnappings by the goblins haven't helped. Except when they kill the elven caravans while we're really short on cloth. That helped a lot.

Next step is to clear all that stone off the site. With 30-40 idlers on average, it shouldn't take too long(it's all from the layers above, though). Hopefully the king stays sane in this time. Right now, he and his queen consort are stuck in a standard 3x3, to which I added 4 rose gold statues.

My dwarven brain altering experiments have borne fruit!  I can now not only adjust attributes & personalities, but also preferences of any/some/all dwarves in the fort. </evil_laugh>

And not just tweaking existing preferences, but mindwipe them and start with a blank slate, if you want.  Materials, foods, drinks; you know what you're going to have them make?  They can love (or hate) all of them in all their various forms, too!   8)

I should have a public-ready version sometime the week of July 16th, if the long term testing goes well.

Urist mceditted likes dwarves, dwarves and dwarves. He absolutly detests dwarves, dwarves and dwarves.

Heh, my vampire is content, despite being depressed about being confined, due to the "very fine restraint" she is chained up with.  The fun part is, its just an iron chain. She doesn't even have a preference for chains or iron.

One of the miners from my starting 7 got bitten by a werelizard, and managed to infect about a third of the fort before I could get her walled in. I managed to keep all of the infected outside until they died, but I haven't had the magma to do away with the miner. In other news, I finished the Great Hall, which is made entirely of copper and silver. I like the color.

My first siege ended with victory for my side... but at what cost? 17 dead, out of a military of 30. At least the goblins did not escape alive.

Not as bad as me, tangledhalls first seige saw me lose 32 of my 32 military and send the fortress into tantrum spiral, It has taken a year and a half to recover the fort and get steel production back on track.

Just had my stonecrafter go insane.  Luckilly, I had just stationed my freshly steel clad squad nearby.  Ulrich McCrazyDwarf chased Ulrich McInnocentBystander into the Trade Depot, where he threw a punch and then was promptly cut into pieces.  There is blood all over the depot.  I wish the elves were here to trade...
