That was interesting...   :o

Tweaked a minecart hauling route a bit (being used for a stone quantum dump), unpaused, and suddenly I had a loaded runaway minecart plowing through my forge area.  Instant carnage.  "Armorer McUrist cancels forge steel mailshirt, interrupted by minecart."

Three dead and chaos ensues.

Sorting my way through a huge migrant wave, 30 some people. When : Ilral Tizotuzol Shetbeth an has come! A large hedgehog twisted into humanoid form. It is crazed for blood and flesh. it's eyes glow yellow. It's charcoal hair is long and wavy. Now you will know why you fear the night..

My reaction? "Oh crap Oh crap Oh crap Oh crap Oh crap.... bunker down bunker down, hurry migrants hurry.... what the?" Because i suddenly see the werehedgehog attack a swarm of cavy's RIGHT OUTSIDE MY FORTRESS WHILE SWARMS OF MIGRANTS RUN BY! Taking advantage of this i mobilise my military, i.e recently drafted migrants to attack. The werehedgehog tears one of them's stomach and chest open with a bit, claws two more people before turning back into a dwarf and being sniped by one of my archers. Needless to say the bitten dwarf is now burrowed on the other side of the map, suffering from infection while i wait for him to turn so i can kill him.

Other than that i'm hastily digging out a barracks and more rooms for the 30 plus dwarves, half of them children, who just showed up at my fortress. Luckily my inner walls are complete and the outer walls are being designated.

Edit: And now i've lost a recruit because the werehedgehog former civilian attacked him, he fought back, the werehedgehog changed back, then my archers shot and killed the recruit.... Dumbass dwarves.

My two speardwarves fought off a werehorse, but not before one was injured. I failed to check if it was due to being bitten (it was), so he was brought to rest in bed. Sure enough, he turned and maimed three dwarves before being dispatched by the remaining speardwarf... which, as it turns out, causes a loyalty cascade. Oh dear.

EDIT: His massacre finally ended when he was killed by his lover, the legendary miner. In all, twelve dwarves were lost as a result of one werebeast attack. Two of my remaining 29 are miserable, and at least 2 more are missing a limb.

A random "Lumbering" type infected stumbled into a cage trap and two seperate swarms of macaques and languars prompted a rather violent response from my machete armed milita and a huntsman. There were no monkey survivors.

EDIT: This is in year one. Already a snatcher (the lumbering) and now a desperate human from the desert. Depicted as follows:

Right after that picture was taken, he was mauled by dogs after having his nose broken by a kick to the face.

Emeraldlanterns 1: The Founding
Emeraldlanterns 2: Migrant Mooding
Emeraldlanterns 3: Animal Control

Emeraldlanterns 4: No Useless Pets

Spring of year 4 hits; time to update child ages in my census.  Wait, what's this?  Someone has just dropped off a 'c' corpse in my corpse stockpile.  Well, who bit the dust, and why...

This is a corpse of Eral Noramsigun.  But who the hell is Eral Noramsigun? The name sounds dwarven, but all thirty-five of my little alcoholics are alive and accounted for. Doing a check in the legends save dating to pre-fortress founding finds nothing under that name.  The whole fort is turtled off so I really don't see how this strange corpse got in, and since the game just autosaved over my 20th Obsidian file, the closest I can get to will be the beginning of last winter...

Curiouser and curiouser.

Time to abandon fort and look through legends.  Still no Eral Noramsigun.

I am so confused right now.

[ETA:]  Oh, it was just the militia captain's pet cavy boar dying of old age.  Hopefully his guineahen will pass quickly too.  Migrant pets are annoying.

Stories must be written. SOMEONE WITH WRITING TALENT DO IT!

A second thief was spotted, and both have since been turned into new floor and wall paint.

Up to 85 dwarves, so the fun should begin soon. So far, most fun was a brief kea attack.  Was worried that I'd get too attached to my first fort and wouldn't enjoy the fun, but the needy little buggers are getting on my nerves.

Found out why so many of my haulers were moving so slowly. My abundance of lead made me resort to making lead cages which weighs 28.3 times more than a chestnut wood one.

Forgotten beast poison has somehow gotten into part of my water supply. The forgotten beast was killed at least a season ago many layer from the current troubles. I can only guess that the beast was put into the refuse pile/butchered. Anyway have lost about 20 dwarfs to this mysterious poison that suffocates/paralyzes/causes nausea/and is almost always fatal.

Currently playing a fortress on the MHU mod.
Embarked on top of a volcano(Literally) Evil biome, bloody rain and the works.

Its only year two, And I received an epic undead siege. 91 zombies of various races and such.

Everything is going ok.. Besides only having 2 dozen cages, No metal industry(Yet)
And they are getting filled with un-dump-able dwarf corpses...
Other then having my only archer die from a elf corpse.
It might take a bit of time till I cage the rest of this siege.

Edit---
Finally got the siege caged up and tossed into the pit.. Beside the dwarf zombies.
Things started to clear up. Besides the random dead things showing up.
Four Melynxe ambushes come in.. Killing three, Wounding two.. I tossed them into the pit as soon as they got caged.
Omfg random Bullfango gets into my fortress.. Pop of 20 something is now down to 10..
Migrants.. Finally!..
Year 3, And I am back up to a population of 20.. Hopefully they stop killing each other, I need more people

This is a Bullfango.. to anyone who is wondering.

Edit-#2
OMF Another undead siege of 90.. and down to 12 people.. Gl self.

I got to the third year and discovered DT wasn't working, so I flooded the dining hall with magma.

I just discovered that my fort is totally unprepared to close and lock its entrances and that my traps are woefully incomplete.  I discovered this when I get the announcement "The Giantess Vafe Femelifecaci has come!  A gigantic creature resembling a human, almost unparalleled in size."

Oh crap.

But I received far less than I deserved.  My marksdwarfs got a hit that distracted her as my military arrived and they dog piled her.  She only got off two attacks and they missed.

A small thieving bird just stole an entire wheel barrow. Hell I'm not even angry I'm just curious what it needs to haul with it.

I'm guessing it was either an african or european swallow.
