In the Bronzemark, it is officially the Year of Beasts.
First, a Tundra Titan. Since it could fly, it bypassed all my defenses to land right in front of my main entrance (which is generally proof against ground-based attacks), where it proceeded to get tangled up with the black bear I keep there and managed to somehow break its ear. While it was busy trying to hit the bear, who has been knocking around for years keeping thieves and such out of my fort, the military geared up, attacked, broke all six of its legs, both its wings and then killed it.
As my dorfs become more skilled in the martial arts, I swear they get more and more sadistic. I've had legendary axedorfs cut all the limbs of enemies before going for the head and similar. Admittedly, the speardorfs will attempt to break a leg or something to get an enemy on the ground before going for the head, so that doesn't count.
Next, a giant flying leech forgotten beast lurking around in the caverns. I thought my main shaft was safe, but apparently it ain't. I manged to get in, sucked all the blood out of a junior diagnoser who was hauling candy, and was then killed by the squad I stationed at the top of the shaft for just such an ocassion. They did lose one guy, but they're all disposable anyway.
Then, another forgotten beast. I didn't pay too much attention to this one, since I knew it couldn't get in. But what it did was, was stand itself within range of the fortifications in the level between my tree farm and what is currently the bottom level of the fort, and wait, causing a huge pile-up as dorfs wanting a drink came up the stairs, took a look at the hideous thing, and legged it back down.
I sent marksdorfs to kill it from safety, but since it apparently had no blood, it took an awful long time.
A minotaur came. It got its legs broke by a trap and was then finished off quite quickly.
An ettin came. A legendary swordsdorf chopped it into mince.
My favourite, however, was a cyclops. It appeared and loitered around a bit before deciding to attack.
The Siegebreakers, led by Champion Monom something-or-other (my favourite dwarf), were dispatched to take it out. Monom, being the most agile of the squad, easily outpaced the others. On the way to the cyclops she discovered a kobold thief, likely trying to take advantage of the confusion.
Without changing trajectory, or speed, she pretty much ran straight through the little bugger, leaving kobold chunks in her wake. He pretty much exploded.
And then she killed the cyclops single-handedly as well, not that she had a choice since she has only got the one.
