Latest fort:
Intentions were:
a) don't screw up like last time
b) reach pop cap and isolate after immigration stops (at around 40-50 dwarves, I don't like having more)
c) make a bunch of nice stuff for an adventurer to pick up later...
d) put a bunch of that stuff in lead bins somehow
e) make sure I dismantle all traps before abandoning
Side-intention: End world gen at year 2.
Results of labour:
Over 400 pieces of shiny circus tent material, and still no sign of the hole from whence the entertainment arrives. Stopped digging at this point, enough greed to satisfy me easily with no risk.
There's a 10-dwarf squad for swords and a 10-dwarf squad for hammers. 20/50 of my dwarves are military.
Any immigrants who arrived and I didn't have a plan for were put on the pump operation exercise plan (which also helped gradually identify non-vampires by thirst and hunger). Several legendary pump operators still have no specific career besides hauling. Probably haul faster too...
Weapon/armorsmith just made an artifact iron gauntlet, Trampledringed the Persuader of Stabbing. Now legendary armorsmith, great weaponsmith. Will train in weaponsmithing while circus tent is processed...
Making lead bins... (EDIT: ran out of lead bins, making gold bins. There's lots of gold on this map)
Considering things to make for adventurer besides armor and weapons. Coins, food, booze, crutches, shiny blue clothes, flask, throwables or ammo... (Edit: no coins, as I read they don't cross civilizations too well, rather make some other sellable universal goods)
Considering designing a defensible safehouse for adventurer in this map... A bunker to hole up in, with grinding opportunities (such as a pool) and access to caverns for extra fun...
No legendary beasts can get in, no titans can get in, I'm sealed up, my smith got his mood (which required opening up to grab wool from a killed caravan) so there's no risk of needing outside stuff (anymore). Just have to resist the temptation to open again until all adventurer goods are completed (and traps are removed).
I'll probably build a lever to open the fortress from outside and a separate bridge and lever to close it from inside, just to be a little extra careful.
Edit: Also thinking about drafting my smith to equip her with some of the finest of her own work (of duty) and give her some training in it too to pass the time while more material is wafered.
