I got 5 solid pages of Dwarven Baby cancels Clean Self: Too Insane alerts.
Turns out his mother (a swordsdwarf) had been using him as a meatshield.

Finaly got my 5 militia dwarves to wear armor, just in time too, goblin ambush!

Dwarves trickle towards the target, one at a time.

First one to get there is wearing an iron helmet - dies.
Second one, didn't bother to wear anything - dies.
Third, dunno how he died.
Fourth ran over in elven armor, I don't even know how he got that - dies.
The fifth dwarf, in full armor, got stabbed in the finger, so he passes out and the gobs wail on him.

Still not dead yet, still knocked out.

Horah for superior dwarven armorsmiths!

Digging a large shaft straight down to the magma (200 z levels below).  Taking a bit of time to do, and have lost three miners to various mistakes already.  Still got 4 other legendary miners and 3 non-legendary left though, soooo...eventually we're gonna get that shaft built!

Still playing 40d. I know it's been said before, but megabeasts are enormous pushovers. First one that came was a blue dragon; wandered into a cage trap and was beaten down by a champion in the arena. Second one was a black dragon; smacked down by same champion outside the fortress. Just got an ancient vampire who tried to mess with my shit; 3-dwarf fire team killed him easily. I know these are very legendary champions, but considering that the last two are rulers of hostile civs, they should have given a bit more of a fight.

Only due to bugs though.  Had a Titan attack my fort and a novice axedwarf took him out no problem.  The only really challenging ones are the ones who are nigh on invincible, and well, that's a bit much.

Just started a new fort with the new version.
Was digging out a moat/irrigation channel for my fort and, due to some embarrassingly bad designation mistakes, a miner caused a collapse.
He and a stoneworker friend of his fell into the empty moat; the stoneworker falls one z-level and dies instantly, the miner falls two z-levels and lives with a broken leg.
So now I get to watch the new medical system in action!
And I only lost half of my already undermanned mining team to do it.  :-\

Just set up a graveyard to handle the stoneworker and I notice his last name was "Claspsplattered" so I probably should have known that would happen.

In any case, the miner is being rewarded for his stunning survival!
For now, a special name will have to do:

reloaded from the last save after df crashed on me. it promptly crashes a few more times once the megabeast shows up. apparently my fort is now sufficiently filthy rich to get megabeast attacks to spice up the usual snatcher showing up. here's to hoping that this time around, it won't crash once i try to deal with the giant that's shown up this time. perhaps if i do not designate and assign burrows..

During the latest migrant wave I got a butcher.
His skills are: skilled butcher and adequate diagnostician.
I think I just found my new chief medical dwarf.

The amount of malice in this thread is actually causing me some concern. I mean, chaining up mothers and forcing them to breed, just so we can drown their children to harvest their organs? Does this strike no one else as absolutely horrific?
You misspelled 'hilarious'

My last Chief Medical Dwarf migrated with a bunch of medical skills.
I'm gonna hope it's just a coincidence that he's a proficient bone carver.

Unrelated:
Does anybody know how to muddy ground when your map is a glacier? The whole 'permanently frozen' thing doesn't allow for much irrigation.
I tried building with ice over the desired area, but when the building melts it just leaves a little puddle on the cavern floor and won't mix to make mud.

due to members who love to read other forts but hate knowing they hit other features this would be a best time to not read on.
Spoiler: HSD! (click to show/hide)
so after all that all I got from it is a copper battle axe I traded from a yeti I had to kill pick up once medic chief was done killing it.

4. Release stripped caged goblin child snatcher.
5. Kill order goblin.
6. Come back 3 months later when they're all grand masters.
He will kill all of them. Wrestling can inflict mortal wounds, while training weapons cannot.
I tested this idea in arena, unskilled goblin reached legendary wrestling in no time even against 10 steel-clad dwarfs, and killed more than half of them tearing their throats apart.

Tested in arena /= tested in fortress mode.

I've found it quite effective and the only injury so far has been a broken nose.

Just dig down to the first cavern layer! It's all muddy down there. Also dangerous, but to a manageable degree.

On a newly genned world (last one was a little too fun) set up a new fort. Just got the metal industry rolling and just cracked into a cavern. Set up my third squad of 5 and got them on a good guard/train rotation.

Side Note: Seriously guys I don't know why people are complaining about the military screen. Don't get me wrong it needs a good polish and tidy up but its more than usable. Compared to 40d my men are where I need them to be on the event of some intense fun.
