The diplomat has left unhappy.

I wasn't even aware there WERE diplomats. This was from an elven caravan.

Did he have his meeting on a wooden chair on a wooden-tiled floor in a room with wooden walls, wooden statues wooden table, wooden cabinets and wooden door, with a woodcutter expedition-leader?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Amas showed up. Essentially a steam-powered dinosaur. Kinda badass. It murdered a hapless swordsdwarf via a single kick which tore his spine and then murdered my ridiculously souped-up Baron. (extremely agile, very slow to tire, very strong, very tough, etc). After that the rest of my militia arrived and they shot at him/piled up on it to kill the shite.

The dwarf who got the kill also got the kill on my previous FB, so it looks kinda badass.

Its noxious secretions were clouds of forgotten beast boiling extract which seemed to stun whoever got hit by it. Could be worse I guess.

edit: so, err, ah, those affected by clouds of steam have been vomiting. Like a lot. Imagine 5 dwarves ascending 30 levels of staircases and tunnels and vomiting pretty much all over the place.

They also vomited over the beds in the hospital but they all left after a short rest in those beds. The CMD was on break when they arrived and he was still on break when they left.

The stuff from the Baron's cabinets have been moved to the two I quickly placed in his tomb. Very tidy, the new major can now use the cabinets.

Starting an above ground fortress, and the only rocks I have found so far are rock salt and chalk.  So, I decided to make the entire thing out of rock salt.  My walls are lickable!!!  :D
Then a black bear came in and rampaged before I could force him out, thankfully no one died but the bear set my work back because he made all the wall jobs become cancelled.  Hopefully my first attempt at an above ground fortress doesn't completely crumble before I get at least 50% of it built. lol

Currently under assault from 2 liches, and a horde of their zombies. Considering you can't kill them without bisecting/decapitating them, and their bones are as hard as steel, I'm digging around underground looking for some adamantine. They seem content to just hover out there anyway, looking at my locked doors in a vain attempt to get in :P

I usually try to dig out a big area of soil underground, in a convenient location. It trains up my miners so they waste a lot less ore as they excavate the rest of my fort, and once I breach the caverns my subterranean forest / pasture can get started right away.

I breached recently and for some reason none of my soil type areas started growing the usual undergrowth / fungus stuff once the caverns were breached. I'm on 34_04. Anyone else noticed this?

Rocky and fun start to new fortress. Basically had a undead siege turn up BEFORE the first caravan, only a handful of zombies (no necros) but it killed two important starting seven and wounded an immigrant badly - because of this I didnt get to dig out my water tank in time or make a start on farms. I was about starving when the trade wagon came... but with my broker having died in the siege I had to use an untrained broker - he managed to insult the trader with an unacceptable offer and so the caravan of the moutainhome rolled home to leave another six dwarves to starve/dehydrate. My miners managed to dig a well in the caverns *JUST* as everyone was dying... Spring came around, ice thawed, farms up, immigrants in massive numbers. Good as new.

Massive migrant wave in second year.
All war veterans/huntsdwarves.
Army expanded exponentially. Need metal for weapons and armor.
Lacking iron. Must use copper.

Are elven invasions tough?
:D I want to piss these merchants off big time.

And as it stands right now, we have no use for elven goods.

Kill them anyway.

Fortress just had it's first birth, and the first sword squad has been blooded with elvish blood.
