A friendly trader showed up at the back of a migrant wave and does nothing but stand where he entered the map. I have no explanation.

So, you know how dwarves get to embark with war dogs?

Well, elves get to embark with war grizzly bears.

That's because they tamed them/live in that biome.

Turn off exotics and dwarves living far enough north/south get polar bears and elk.

I've been generating a .34 world for the past five hours.

I'm regretting my choice of history.

Danceoils, 304.  The fortress is thriving, especially now that the two known vampires have been imprisoned for their crimes and are awaiting hammerstrikes as punishment and if necessary a trip to the sanitation chamber to cleanse them via magma.  Our fortress is named "Danceoils", an appropriate name given our migrants need to dodge the vile, oily muck in order to reach the fortress without blisters.  We were fortunate and struck a rich

vein with an easily isolated center and have been able to produce excellent equipment for our burgeoning militia.  The former outpost liaison is now a migrant and proud leader of our military reserve.

We've been cautious to entomb or dump corpses and body parts into magma just in case of incidents.

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

I just got one of them too...I suppose it's a bug.

Either that or the short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry took one look at the landscape and said "oh hell no" and retreated to the safety of the Mirthful terrain our our mountainhome.

Currently, I'm desperately trying to find iron after I got a wave of 50+ dorfs (a good half of them completely useless children) and I need to build up a military before GOBLINS.

......and heeeeeere's the cavern. Shit.

So, I finally just realized I have a fort of awesome. It's half normal, half sinister.

Thus far: zombies
vampire
and just now... a werelizard.

Yes, folks, I've got it all.

I've completely ignored the vamp so far. It's drained a couple of life-sucking kids itself already, so no loss. I just appointed a sheriff, a 13 year old who must have migrated in.

And now the werelizard is in the process of dismantling some dwarves. I just saved for the first time in a while, so... should be interesting. What happens if a vampire becomes a zombie? What about a werevamp? Or a werezomb? So much !!Science!! to be done! I even have two zombie holding tanks ready for the science I was planning on when I embarked here, so adding in the werebeasts and vamps should be doable.

By latest attempt at an elven fortress ended spectacularly, with fleeing goblins manging to get my 3 military elves and my war bear to fall off a waterfall.  Another ambush showed up right after.  Carnage ensued.

Also, I feel REALLY BAD for the kobold who got detected by the war bear fairly early on.  The blood spatter was glorious.

My other (dwarven) fort is going fine, with my legendary elven weaponsmith eating again.  And I've been training up another with copper...  making copper hammers.

I also caged that dragon that had been wandering the map for the last year, randomly eating migrants and caravans and the occasional unlucky woodcutter.   He also started wildfires like four separate times (on separate z levels).

I've been training up the other, less useful elves as crossbow-elves, because apparently dwarven armor doesn't fit my larger elves, but they can still use dwarf sized crossbows...  what?   Regardless, some of them are getting very skilled and they don't seem to have the dwarven tendency to want to melee things with them.

Had a citizen randomly disappear.  I could have sworn I had 80, then just 79.  Totally wierd.  I had the militia fighting two forgotten beasts, followed by two child snatchers showing up, but there were no struck down / bled to death / suffocated messages, and no one new was listed as deceased.  I checked all of the kids and didn't see any "Happy to be set free" thoughts, so they shouldn't have been nabbed.

Strange stuff.  Not the new version either.  Maybe I just imagined it.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

The dwarven homes offered me war leopards again instead of war dogs. Giant war leopards in fact. They breed as fast as dogs but take longer to mature, too bad. One has already killed a kobold and 2 goblin thieves and earned a name. Running past 100 dwarfs and no confirmed vampires or were creatures yet, though the mayor has amazing social skills.

metal industry set up, let's see how it goes.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
