I just had a dwarf survive being bitten by a vampire by stationing the vampires squadron. Pretty good to know.

Installing latest version of DFVD right now, even got a new name idea to honour the release.

Outpost Idenol, founded in the Plains of Corruption a short way from a goblin Tower, seems to be off to a good start.
We have a bountiful river filled with fish, a good climate and pleasant wildlife, apart from the pesky vultures who keep swooping workers and dogs. We shall need to craft some crossbows soon...
A cloud of foul vapour drifted past briefly, thankfully with no ill effects, but other than that there's been little of note.

My vampires keep snitching on each other, I changed their squad from being the fortress guard to being another militia. I've given them eight chattle laborers and food sources. It takes alot of micromanagement but I can keep them fed without actually letting them kill anyone.

A queen consort arrived, and our bone carver went fey and turned 24 giant kea bones into an amulet.

As I was scanning my fortress for a new vampire that's recently left its mark, I decided to check the history of my new Mayor. Turns out he's not only a former goblin prisoner, but also the former war leader of the local Goblin civilization. I was able to verify that he was not in fact a vampire, but damn that guy must have an interesting history. I'll have to look him up in legends.

Edit: Turns out the vampire was a ghost. I knew he was floating around, but I figured it a fitting punishment that he be forced to roam the halls he haunted for all time. Guess it's not :P

Edit2: Goddamn vampires! I just put my entire fort in a foul mood when I pinned the crime on the long deceased vampire. A few people are unhappy, but I don't think it'll cause a tantrum spiral. Even in death these stupid beasts torture me!

When after two waves of migrants I've ended up with two dwarves sealed away from hordes of zombies I thought: "alright these were harcoded, which means I'm screwed now."
But lo and behold! Without some apparent reason migrants charge to my fortress with grave determination. I had barely finished first semi-automatic zombie smasher when a wave of 30 dwarves came (in a fort that hasn't even produced anything!). I've even managed to get like 25 of them safe. But that's not all, a week later, another lesser wave came at the furthest from entrance end of the map, I've hastily opened a new one but they seem to verify path not so often now, they kept running towards horde of zombies near the main entrance even after I've raised bridge.
And here's image of one of the migrants that finally hit upon taking another way. And she hasn't even reached a meeting zone yet.

Just started my first fortress in DFVD. Figured I would try an evil biome for the first time ever. Though I now have a split embark, left half is sinister while the right one is just normal savannah. Two zombie ogres (one has literally nothing left, it's more of a skeleton, brain gone, eyes gone, heart gone, all skin and muscles gone) and five zombie boars. Got eyeball and dead worm tail (or whatever) grass. And it started raining right away ... okaaaaay. Bitter ooze, no effect so far besides the sudden urge of all the dwarves to clean themselves. Lets see where this is going!

Update: So the bitter ooze still doesn't do anything ... but the zombie boars killed all but my two miners. Well, short experiment I guess. On a sidenote one of the two gods my dwarves worshipped made one of his followers a weremammoth - I repeat a fricking WEREMAMMOTH!!!

One of my marskdwarves, who was off duty, responded to my order to throw a goblin into the pit of death, where I have several armed militiamen waiting to tear him to pieces. The marksdwarf headshotted the goblin in mid-air as he threw him into the pit. Asshole.

In one of my migrant wave, i spotted a tanner that had nice combat skills, and added him to my main military squad.

So to avoid drained to death dwarfs, i decided to build a 8 level deep pit, with a retractable bridge at the top. Meanwhile i assigned this vampire into his own squad, alone, and stationed him in a small room i closed with a granite door set to forbidden.

And just when i finished building my death pit for that vampire, guess what.
My stupid dwarfy population ... just elected him as the mayor.
Despite he has been in the closed room since his arrival, meaning he could not have really talked or seen anybody more than a few minutes when he went from the border to his closed prison.

Now that's charisma, none hear about you, none see you, nearly none even know you're there, but you get elected. :D
Are dwarf vampires having some kind of distant mental influence power ?

edit : oh he survived the fall through 8 levels.
He has broken right hip and broken left leg, so he can't stand up anymore, and he has the skull broken (though he's always "alive") .
Can't get him to climb back to the bridge by himself, as he does not move anymore, and can't risk a stupid dwarf to go fetch him and drop that vampire into my hospital.

Will have to find another way to finish him.

I've been starting up a little industry when I felt something is wrong. A vampire spotted!
Gladly, no bloodless zombies have appeared yet and he doesn't have any trophies, so maybe he is vegetarian. In such a miserable state my fort is, I can't afford to find out, he shall be isolated. Guess who's going to do all woodcutting  8)
Aslo, I have 13 years old child. It's possibly bug so he is the only child with labors enabled.

I started a fortress, looking for that perfect embark with evil weather and undead everywhere. I found it.

The undead were not initially a problem, but the demonic ash showed up real quick. I almost succeeded in walling off my wagon, but in the end had to bring everyone downstairs before it hit. Everyone obeyed... except, of course, the cat.

Cat-thrall immediately went after my dwarves. I militarized everyone, but they were too quickly engaged with Cat-thrall to grab the sundry weapons I'd brought. The fighting got taken above ground (I had no control at this point).

The cat couldn't do much - maybe mangled a few limbs. The seven dwarves, all master wrestlers by the end of this, had broken every bone in its body and taken off a paw. One of my dwarves wandered off and collapsed, exhausted - just as another ash cloud hit. He was promptly enthralled and proceeded to punch everyone in the brain.

I am no longer bringing cats.
