Damn it all... Machinestandard isn't going nearly as planned right now.
If a fort goes as planned, you're not trying hard enough.

What's wrong with using magma? That's almost always the easiest method.
I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.

Winter came late due to the warm climate - but the water freezing took out all those darned sponges. Unfortunately, I then managed to run out of booze because my farmers were lazy and had a fort full of thirsty dwarves, so I dug to the caverns for water. One Cave Crocodile, a horde of Troglodytes, and a berserk miner later, and I learned that apparently not all terrifying locales auto-raise the dead. Dog teeth and bits of children are everywhere, and none of the heads and hands have so much as twitched for two seasons.

Luckily, a 26-strong migrant wave replenished my workforce and supplied a turkey poult for the miner to chase around the map while they got to the fort and updated the defenses with traps he hasn't seen yet.

Some legendary beast WereCreature visited my fortress in the middle of the day, proclaiming death for all of us. Then a camel walked up to him and kicked him in the ass. He turned back into a human and ran away.

on 1st of Granite, 131 the world where Abodonginish  "Strikebodice" lies,  entered the Age of Legends.



Also encountered  Flying mouths, literally,  in depths of the 3rd cavern, some 160 levels deep.


(where's that dang magma!)

That's my markdwarf squad sorted then, although I have a bit of a wood shortage for bolts at the minute. The dwarves I've assigned so far are finding the flocks of ravens to be great target practice (and because they're shooting up, the bolts that miss fall unbroken to the ground).

For fun, i embarked into a haunted or sinister location without having prepared my expedition to face this, i wanted to see if i could have them survive at least a season.

After arriving, the area seemed calm, but i started to notice animals fighting animal corpses, then once dead raising as corpse and they were all fighting each other, unholy sight to see undead ravens fighting undead carps fighting undead water buffalos.
Without losing a minute, i started digging, with the goal to get enough stone to wall that hell zone in order to give a safe area to my dwarves.

But very quickly

That didn't helped at all, dwarves were vomitting, and the stones were slow to come.

A water buffalo corpse finally arrived and invaded my underground haven, it was the end as the creature just maimed and gored every single dwarf of the expedition.

Horrible , just horrible , and one of the reason you really need to prepare your expedition equipment specifically for your embark zone :D
With taking stone and woods, i could have at least delayed that destruction by walling the area.

Well, I embarked in a forested valley with the Thothgol civilisation, The Skewer of Torment. I didn't realise that I'd embarked with a nearly collapsed nation.
With the very first migrant wave, the Great Tusk's (monarch) husband, Ubnit Pheruenberit, shows up.

Alarmed and confused, I checked the civ screen - The Skewer of Torment has three nobles: The general, a lady and the Monarch's consort (actually, it pointed out some more minor corrections I need to do, in that some of the noble spouse titles are referencing the old titles, not the newer, so the Great Tusk's Consort is actually 'the Great War Tusk's Consort' - moar fixing ahoy!).

That's it. That's all the nobles of the Skewer of Torment. I can only assume it is now my role to rebuild this entire empire from this heavily forested valley.

The Husband/consort in question is a hundred years old. At best, he's got roughly another twenty years of life - though I wouldn't place too much hope in reaching it. Ubnit, as the fit ruler of the nation, is going into the military to lead The Skewer of Torments against its enemies.

Third migrant wave was over 33 dwarves. That number has dwindled to nine. Three have found safety, three more are suffering from syndromes that will inevitably kill them the other three are fleeing zombies. The rest were torn apart by zombies and then they started pathing through the acrid ooze and then a cloud came and then a zombie ripped off a little girls dress and hit her with it so hard that the dress became embedded in her skull, a farmer went into a fell mood and was predictably torn apart by zombies. There's alot of freaking zombies here is what I'm saying, but you know the weirdest part of this? After two migrant waves an entire caravan and the outpost liason were swallowed by this wretched shit hole never to be seen again THIRTY THREE people decided it would be a great place to set down roots. The mountain-homes has some serious mismanagement going on.

Update: 2 children and a ranger survived. The ranger went melancholy and has been sealed in his room, when he dies I don't want him coming back in a public place. There are now 7 dwarves 2 children and 65 reanimated corpses. That numbers just going up, the elves entered the map directly on an ooze pile and were mobbed by zombies. They spent their last moments blind, blistered, and being ripped apart by the undead- so it's not all bad.

Welp. That nauseating muckus sure is slowing down production, as my dorfs spend about 1/3 of their time "resting injury" at my makeshift "hospital" in the entrance corridor, after waddling out in the rain and getting bruises all over. At least the blindness from bruised eyes (OW!  :o ) isn't permanent...

Other than that, I'm slowly making some process in digging out the farms and trading depot area as well as preparing some rudimentary defences.
Not a lot of migrants coming my way, I wonder why that would be ??? Also, one of my miners went stark raving mad from misery after being forced to drink slime, sleep on the floor and getting caught in mucus storms for the better part of year one.

So far there's nothing to trade to the caravan for much-needed food supplies, axes and picks.

I don't think Syrupfriendly is going to be a very long-lived fortress...

[edit]Oh great, now some morons managed to knock themselves senseless with a cave-in. Way to build a floor over a pit from the side where it's still being dug, genius! Also, another raving maddorf. The first one seems to have dehydrated to death already. Now that's what you call ‼Fun‼.

... So yeah, what eventually finished the fort was, winter came and even the slimy water freezed. Cue much dehydration, a couple of berserks and

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.
