(could be due to the stone mechanisms maybe?)

yep. EVERY part needs to be magma safe

a fisherdwarf died because I was too distracted by a heavy siege and he was in a mood

Ag, my dragon is just a baby and can't even defeat a goblin. Now I have to make this fort a generation one spanning a thousand years just toget the dragon to grow up

or lack thereof. Messed up with the liason for the umpteenth year in a row so despite having 200+ dwarves, so I'm not even a barony yet.

is the other one the militia commander?
if yes, go boatmurdered

backdikes has not faces many menaces lately, having only silver as a weapon metal is a dissapointment, so I will probably have to turn this tower hole into an aboveground monstrosity, I will also try and flood the lands lower than the fortress area

I'm working on a... Let's call it an "unworth purging chamber".

As the name suggests, I purge the unworthy. Namely the hordes of useless migrants I get. Drowning for the epic win!

Thank you everyone for the help! I've since flooded the fortress I was working on and now have a new one going up.

All is well in my fortress, then my mayor makes a mandate, so I check it out: He wants toad tooth items  :o

Well he isn't getting them. Because life isn't fair.

Now on with the construction of my weapon trap pit/drowning/magma chamber  8)

SpiraledMetal, my fort to replace the last one, just got a siege. Oh no! I laugh, and say - everyone get inside, we're lowering the gate. They'll miserably walk around my walls, and eventually just be annoying to a few merchants before they leave. Can't touch this 3-walled fortress!

They're still moving, oh no. Where are they... oh shit. A single ramp I forgot to remove allows them a way over a spot in my walls. And I find this out, after I figure "we can retake the outer section where all the housing is, I'll just remove this one little wall..

Remobilise the troops, and send them into the hoard while all the civilians get back inside. 5 wounded, 3 dead, and gained an awareness of major flaws in my security. Also, major flaws in my medical team - I had none, no hospital, and no supply of water in this climate.

Forward to what I do now - of course work on my structural flaws. I also reorganized and refilled the teams, activated them, started building a collection reservoir for water from the one mostly-dry pond on the map. I'll make this fort a power to be reckoned with yet.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

reveal from df hack doesn't reveal the candy, though it's possible to spot it by looking around the bottom few layers, but this involves actually moving the viewpoint, since the minimap doesn't show it either
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I did, there was nothing but 4 solid Z-levels of SMR  :(

Edit: Just copied save and embarked on a 16x11 area next to it and revealing showed me plenty of candy but in odd patterns, so I just picked the worst spot in the region to embark :(

Had a siege happen while roofing off the outside area of the fort. Sent out my army and they cleared it out, only one wounded Dorf. Missing his left foot. He was my best Axedorf, having a good number of kills. I wondered what managed to dismember him. Found this gem in the gamelog.

The Jabberer snatches at The Axedwarf in the right foot with his first toe, left foot and the severed part sails off in an arc!

I just discovered that I had (completely unintentionally) built my Mayor's bedroom over a magma pipe. Like, channel down from his bed and you're looking down at magma. What was that about wanting bismuth items, Mayor?

Uh oh... while trimming the excess obsidian from the de-flooded portion of the volcano I shaved the corner off a wall seperating it from the part still filled with magma. I wasn't watching because I've been busy working on the castle atop the drained shaft. The lower parts have already flooded and begun draining into other parts of the fortress, and down the stairs to my adamantine processing facility.

Alas, I failed in my attempts to contain the red liquid death. First of all I lost Lovecraft my first miner when he crossed a ledge to mine some obsidian and became trapped. I had my masons build walls, but wherever we blocked the magma it began pouring somewhere else. The breach was quite far up the shaft so as soon as we sealed off one floor the magma began flooding the next. In some places it poured over walls that were not high enough, and in others it spread down wide open corridors. Several masons were horribly burned to death, and a wave of tantruming sabotaged efforts to stem the flow. Finally, Duke Newbunkle himself went beserk which means he shall never marry into the royal line. The experiment is a complete failure.
