Real fun is starting. Just lost some dorfs to a dust FB, and have had a few randoms since then suddenly bleed out, so we may have some syndrome hanging around. Note, I've been kinda overconfident with my FBs - most of them have been complete cinches until recently. Now I have a fire-breathing starling. I have about 8 access points to my stairwell, and my magma forges are BELOW the first cavern layer where the bird is. My military is suffering from the last two FBs a bit, we might be looking at some turtling soon. I need to figure out a way to seal the stairs and perhaps weaponize this thing, but I think that it's too late.

Aaaaand Morul has survived! The cave crawler must've bit her leg off so cleanly that it healed! She was 'Very slow to heal' but all she needed in the hospital was a clean and a crutch, and she's up and about again! Wow.
That's pretty good writing you've got there! Give Morul a living quarters upgrade. (You should probably take her off the hunting labor immediately as well. Way too slow, having to learn to use crutches, to even have a chance.) I thought it was a forgotten beast at first though. :P

I've struck a very impressive tower of adamantine just to the right of my central stairwell while searching for magma. It extends clear to the top of the third chasm, and the basic plan for the stairwell hugs it very closely. I must be slipping, because I've been making mistake after mistake lately, and I let the miners excavate tiles of adamantine on several levels. Any one of those tiles could have doomed the fortress. Oh what luck have we this day...

I found out what happened to that miner's baby. She jumped in the meeting room's pool and drowned. Her corpse is down there rotting and driving everyone mad at the moment :(

Construction of the dining hall continues unhindered. The first migrants have arrived. No useful skills to be had...

I've disabled all labours, because she's too slow to haul until she gets Legendary Crutch-Walker, and i'm building her a tomb and a special room near the Original Seven's.

And yeah, I do do writing, though my standard's quite a long way down due to lack of enthusiasm due to schooling turning it from a fun activity into drudgery.

Frost Wyrm! Frost Wyrm in the fortress! EVERYONE PANIC! :o

I have no defenses set up to keep flyers out! MY only option is to set a PANIC alert and lock everyone in the food stockpile until it leaves. Oh gods I figured there would only be a few different species in this biome... Lesser dragons AND frost wyrms? Must be that the two segments of this tundra have separate creature populations...

OH GOD IT GOT A HOLD OF A LITTLE GIRL HER FLESH IS MELTING OFF BY THE POUND THE HORROR!

Maybe the rangers can deal with it...

OH GODS THERE'S TWO OF THEM! SCREW THIS, EVERYONE HIDE!

All is lost ;_;

------------------------------

Alright, after I called PANIC and shoved everyone safely inside and let the beasts ravage the workshops, I released the rangers to deal with them. Unfortunately, one ranger of them was murdered in his sleep by one that flew inside and roasted his bed, and the other was struck by a strange mood and immediately proceeded to do nothing useful, so the mighty legendary dodger erith was left to slay the dragons. erith charged at the one hanging out at the entrance and got himself lightly frostbitten from it's frostfire. Turns out his "legendary dodger" is really just "Legendary LIAR" and the beast successfully struck him as it charged, knocking him down the entryway. The beast then got caught in a cage trap, coincidentally saving itself and erith from further injury. erith suffered the loss of all the fat on his lower body, but I'm hoping he wasn't subjected to the syndrome associated with the frost fire or this could get much, much worse. Maybe now he'll be agile enough to dodge, though :P

I'm calling him off. Hoping he'll pick up some ammo before getting his ass kicked and dieing like a fool.

The syndrome I spoke of earlier is killing off large numbers of stupid animals. And now, it's hit my broker. He's one of the originals, and his lover is my legendary brewer and mayor. This is going to be BAD.

EDIT: His lover is... "quite content".

Oh crap... I can't build a workshop to satisfy the now-moody ranger, because the damn wyrm will charge back inside to destroy it and kill the entire population in the process. Honestly, I don't know what the hell to do. Until it's dead, I can't build ANYTHING, but without forges and a workshop for Urist McMoodyBitch, I can't produce bolts to kill the damn thing!

Any suggestions?

Eh... No :P

The thing is, with the frost wyrms I made, melee is NEVER safe. erith nearly melted like the child did. It's frost fire would kill the dwarves before most of them even get within melee range (It seems to have a range of 3-7 tiles.)
And by then they'd be puddles of blood and mushy tissue.

Feeling brave, I made a craftsdwarf's shop along the southern wall (as close to the beast as possible without direct LOS.), and the ranger took it and made a mug without the wyrm moving an inch. She seems content to float there above the ground after her rampage, so I went ahead and rebuilt everything and am continuing management as normal. All hail Hawkhaunts the frost wyrm!

And, to a lesser extent... Natureford? Egomatul... Definitely not as climactic as Hawkhaunts. I need to get her in a cage...

I discovered that marksgoblins+surface fort+thought rivers meant I didn't need as many walls=FUN. (The firebreathing goblins didn't help either.)

I've been forced into making an atom smasher as my first line of defense. I have shied away from them because I simply love having a mountain of rotting goblin corpse at my front entrance. But now that my river and volcano have both been diverted, I simply can't have any more fps drop from the infinite number of blood-splattered troll fur robes and socks just laying around.

Well, as it turns out nobody really cares about the frost wyrm anymore.

I just experienced 2-3 ambushes, which killed my entire military and 3-5 civilians, including a child whose father was barely recovering from the loss of his baby daughter and wife, the head smith, which caused one of the other starting 7 to go melancholy, and some mook nobody cares about. However, it just so happens that everyone in the militia was a huge socialite. Que tantrum spiral. I suppose it's lucky that one of the militia was our sheriff and he's dead now. But unlucky that his wife and children are miserable now!

At least the kobold I chained up at the entrance could defend herself properly (fought off 2 orcs. Didn't manage to kill either of them, but they left in a hurry after that. Kobold is A-OK.)  This lot deserves to die. The caravan guards were the only thing that saved them.

Bootrazors tapped Cavern Level 1, two levels above a body of water. Only flying FBs will bother the dorfs of Bootrazors until they make a path to solid ground, and fungus is growing in all the rooms where I was planning to put underground pastures/tree farms, so those are coming along nicely.

One of my army dorfs gave birth in the middle of the danger room while it was active. Poor baby Dishmab was born to an -alder training spear- in the gut ("Her right false rib is fractured. Her liver is fractured."). Surprisingly, she's survived long enough for me to take her mom off duty.

Also, those herds of capybara finally wandered into the gauntlet of cage traps. Let's see if those guys really do breed like rodents. *capybara meat chili*, anyone?

Bwahahahaha

I just engineered a cave-in to attempt to destroy the fort. Turns out the only one that died was erith the "untouchable".
He found yet another force legendary dodging won't let you dodge: the ground. :P
