Got bored, so I abandoned one of my seasonal saves so that I could go looking through the history of my Mountainhome. (I went for a high number of civilizations in world gen, and as a result, few civilizations are very big. I am sad to find that this does not mean any pre-built ruins.)

After digging around some, I finally tracked down the history of Iden Silverytax, First King of The Cunning Roughness.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tosid Blamemurders, that bunny-devouring cougar of ill-repute, died peacefully of old age two years later.

So, apparently, a lot of my foredwarves died of starvation while issuing royal mandates. Thankfully, they seem to figure out how to grow crops by around the year 51, though they don't seem to know how to raise an army.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Those two dwarves who got piked were my general and king. And you'd think that, having pillaged my capital, The Dark Plagues would have taken over the kingdom. Only, it seems that Logem Wallbowels must have pulled some kind of fast one, cuz now she's the queen of my dwarf-nation, and is getting attacked by the goblin general who won her the kingdom in the first place. o.O

Actually, it gets a bit stranger than that, because according to Logrem's bio, she gets abducted in the second assault and that's when she gets turned into a Monster Bride of Twilight.

So....that's what I'm doing.

First migration wave, featuring a LEGENDARY ARMORER. Sonofabiiiiitch. Likes shields. And nickel but I'm not sure if I'd modded nickel to be made into shields. Would be neat-o.

It would be nice if we could place shields on walls like those nordic houses.

Had a not-quite-a-disaster spiral. As I said on this thread before, the Human diplomat turned out to be a demon, and he tracked in extracts which caused people who touched it to bleed out. Starting losing pets and children because they have bare feet. So I dug out a wading-pool system at all the entrances to the booze stockpile, a trench with ramps on either side and water dumped in from above. The water source was an underground lake a few levels above; I installed a floodgate and a grate, dug a drain down to another lake below, and opened it up. It worked OK for a while, blood was getting washed off, then I realized that I hadn't dug enough drainage, so while the fort didn't actually flood, the trenches soon filled up with 7/7 water. I tried to close the floodgate, and realized I had made the mistake of putting the wallgrate inside the floodgate, and so rocks from the tunnel-digging pushed up against it and kept the floodgate from closing. I hacked out bypasses for the trenches, and started working on expanding the drainage system, but then... a siege arrived and wiped out my milita, so.. back to the drawing boards..

First time ever I was noticed that wild animal gave birth. It's perfect 'what woah awesome!' moment in mah life, like back then when one of my dwarf ladies gave birth to twins.

EDIT: It happened again! Caves full of giant lizard youngs, what.

Anyway, my fortress wealth just skyrocketed.  Why?  A dwarf went into a strange mood right after I finished mining an emerald vein, and carved a PERFECT EMERALD.  Worth 98000 DwarfBucks.  In other news, some dwarf managed to get himself stuck on the roof.  How?  I don't know.  But now I have to build a ramp up to him so he doesn't starve.  And I just checked him out, and he's THE ONE WHO CARVED THE EMERALD.

Im starting again. I had it too easy iron and flux in abundance tons of epic food and booze and a double sized mist generator in the epic dining room made my lil'beardies too happy even the death of beloved pets caused nary a whimper to my hardened fighters. I might try building a tower that's something I still haven't done properly.

I approve of extra levers and elaborate search, rescue then murder operation on the goblin in the well :)
Indeed. The levers are becoming confusing now, and I keep accidentally pulling the drawbridge one. I'm pretty sure it's only a matter of time before I cause something to go horribly right.

Well, that's the second year.  Too lazy to bring up the stats right now... but something weird is going on.  I'm past 50 dwarves (And still stable!) and my expedition leader hasn't turned into a mayor yet.  Does it take a while for the transition, do you need to have things ready, or what?

It happened again! Caves full of giant lizard youngs, what.
So how will you be purging them?
Fire? Cave-ins? Insane, drunken beards frothing at the dwarf with blind fury, blood, and booze?
or something less conventional?

Tame them and let the goblins deal with them in a war of attrition on the surface, outside the regular defenses. If they survive to impress, keep them coming. If they lose, clean up the mess and give the goblins some thanks for not sucking at the one task you asked of them.

Well, despite all its shortcomings (Accidentally cooked all my plump helmets and had to sacrifice half my 1st year dwarfs to killing an elephant for food, missing one raise bridge link in a complicated drowning trap that rendered my well fortified main entrance flooded and useless, and somehow having the level that opened my trade depot also linked to the bridge opening 2nd cavern level), my fort has managed to survive long enough to stand on its own. I've started my first mega-project: I'm draining a magma pipe and intend cast a a new fort out of obsidian in it's center, then allow it to fill up again. Once I'm completely sealed off from the rest of the world, it'll be time to dig greedily, and dig deep.

KingdomEarth has completed the new town above ground. Multi story buildings that are linked in various places by bridges and towers. Also just being finished is the new Temple. An 8 z level high building made up of columns supporting a stepped roof with the gaps between the columns containing gold, silver, adamantine and other expensive statues. The whole thing forms the centre of the new towns nexus. The town also has two barracks containing the Fortress Guard and Surface Militia. The new prison is in place as well. The cells are basically towers open to the sky with the prisoner stuck at the bottom. The whole town is surrounded by a 3 high wall with fortifications in key places and towers periodically.

You mean purging of annoying dwarves or goblin prisoners?

Yeah, I will toss them to lizards.
