The traders arrived with a super-expensive barrel.
Said barrel has a picture with a dwarf eating cheese on it.

I'm going to start naming my forts out of some of the weapons in the game. For example, this fort is going to be known as 'Shortsword'. The next fort will be 'Longsword', 'Greataxe', 'Battleaxe', and so on... Right up until I run out of weapons that can be named in the name generator.

Hm, in my last string of ambushes (a squadron of thieves, practically, plus four groups of regular ambushers) an elven caravan arrived and they didn't get to enjoy themselves much. One of their horses fell into my moat and survived and has just now gone stark raving maaaaaad.

I JUST hit the Caverns a minute ago. AND THEY WERE ONLY 5 LEVELS BELOW THE GROUND. On the plus side, it's a sedimentary cavern (I must be damn lucky) with some Tetrahedrite, Hematite, Magnetite, coal/lignite, Bauxite, etc. I'm going to have to figure out how to deal with what comes in, though. The MAJOR downside is the fact that there's no Flux. So no Steel, dammit.

My militia fought off a siege which included Trolls, so the field in front of my fortress entrance is now the usual sea of blood, bodies, and equipment. Working on turning a hill into a marble-covered pyramid.

One of my dwarves had a strange mood and created... A shale coffer, encircled with bands of shale, which menaces with spikes of shale.

I guess he really likes shale.

The Serpentfolk, Demons and Centaurs are trying to clash with us. Aside from a centaur siege and a demon ambush, it's been quiet save the odd thief or two.

Also, I just learned it, but any very hostile race (goblins in vanilla, for example) will export Terror to your fortress and will import Vengeance from yours. Viewable in the trade agreements window.

Not necessarily a "very hostile race". I've had the same from humans in an earlier fort.

Similarly, kobolds export petty annoyance and import death.

Edit; huh, odd. A beekeeper arrived listing only her deities as relations, but a goat arrived after her claiming to be her pet. D:

At one point, were you not able to channel magma into your trade depot and sell it?

just now, a kobold tried to get into my fort...only to be surprised by my war grizzly bear. he only lived because apparently stumbling upon the kobold startled my bear long enough for the kobold to run for his fucking life(and I do mean run; the bear did chase it all the way to the map edge!).

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

The centaurs have come knocking again. Mostly hammermen... Riding black bears. Lolwut.

((For those who don't get it: a centaur riding a bear))

Scratch that. Oh shit, 15 dwarves fighting 60+ centaurs. ALL OF THEM ON MOUNTS. Cue the whole military entering a martial trance.

Smoothing out my living quarters, constructing mechanisms for traps in the entry hall, digging out other stairwells, and am going to start mining for coal/metal once everything is done. Planning on getting a small ironclad military armed with shortswords (after which the fort was named) once enough iron is made.

an Addendum: I just finished training my 15th war bear! Heh, I was lucky and was able to embark with grizzly bears, so screw war dogs!
