Now if only there were a chance in hell I'd find any iron ore on the map...
I don't think the clowns would approve of your prospecting.

DO IT NOW

I have just learned (with a savescummed test-fire)  That my Lever of Liquid Clensing is not as all-killing as I'd like it to be.  Note to self; Make suicide lever more deadly - Not enough dwarves were drowned.

Was ambushed by about 20 goblins, killed or captured all at the loss of only 3 killed, and only one seriously wounded. Also, running low on fuel for furnace, but no one wants to work the damn thing, no matter how many dwarves I assign.

... but no King was released  We got a migrant wave of about six dwarves, bringing the population of Ironbear to 230.

I looked through my artifacts and engravings.  The most recent two or three kings a) took the throne over two hundered years ago at the most recent and b) are/were Night Creature spouses.  My civ has no important leaders.

Well, time to start having fun.

Embarked on an aquifer just below the surface. No stone. At all.

First fort in a while thats gotten to anywhere of note. First force of darkness and My militia were able to take out 20 goblins with zero casualties and only half the squad having military training. The commander accounting for four kills with his Iron battle axe barely cooled from the forges. Not even a scratch on one of them thanks to the iron armor I got made just in time.  Now to work on the marksdwarf squad getting equipped. The current fort should hold itself fine being the base camp it is whilst tunnels to the magma sea are built and the whole fort relocated down near there. Farms and all.

Gravity filling a magma reservoir takes a looooooooooong time.

Also, about to try my massive underground tree farm flooding operation.

Stupid goblins "ambushed" my legendary miners.

I don't know if you need other ideas when you have magma.

One of my dwarves, in the middle of a tantrum spiral, has been taken by a mood and "loose[d] a roaring laughter, fell and terrible".  I'm about to get something crafted out of dwarf bone, aren't I?

Edit: Oh dear. Fikod Danurvad's just claimed the corpse of one Fath Tunomcerol and dragged it to a butcher's shop

Edit 2:  He's made a dwarven bone buckler- Lirukursas Tongusamur, aka "Violentdecays, the Maligned Dirt".  It has an image of an artifact tower cap floodgate in dwarf bone.

That may be the most horrifically appropriate name, come to think of it.

Starting to get sick of embarks and migrants. I have regenerated a few worlds, and dug relatively deep along magma shafts.

I've started another one now, but honestly I still don't like the place. I just want...

I want a great fort with something to build - and I want to not have to worry about stupid caravans or ghosts or managing goblinite. Hmm... how to gen a world without having to worry about this crap? meh, Im' still mulling it over.

The pump stack works.

My first pump stack works.

My first magma pump stack works.

Now to build something that moves more magma faster.

YES I finally got the pumps made and a piece of stone mined. And I can't make clay mechanisms. Fuck. Also buildings made of ash need masonry. Huh.

Everyone's miserable, The militia's cutting down tantrumming dwarves left and right, and my Captain of the Guard's idea of justice is punching the guilty party's brain out of the back of their head.  He's killed four dwarves so far for minor crimes.  I'm not sure if i should sack him, or erect a statue to him for his overkill justice.

Name him 'Dredd', or perhaps 'Sarin' (nerd prop for getting that one)

Status: miss-estimation resulted in having to deconstruct the top four levels of the Memorial Tower... I was trying to do it carefully, but the whole blasted thing caved in, and took Dwarf Fortress with it.  Accidental savescum means back to spring.  Now I know I have to start tapering my obelisk a floor earlier, as I can't build on Z+15
