You should all be ashamed of yourselves.  The obvious solution is to chain the baby up at the entrance as a kobold detector.

I accidentally flooded my hospital area in a failed attempt to connect a well to the river. I forgotten about DFs physics and logics pertaining to water. Fun happened.

Well, if there were any patients at least it got them clean, right?

The only silver lining to the failure was that no one was injured severely enough to be hospitalized. The only injured person was the miner, but that's already healed up.

My favorite first death in the fort ever:

We had not yet got around to walling off the 28 z-level shaft of the fort's well.  An angry alpaca spelled doom for one unlucky dwarf, who was on a staircase quite near the top, at the time.  20 full z-levels of falling and even through 2 z-levels of water, he EXPLODED.

Somehow a refuse pile caught fire inside my pasture.  It might have something to do with my lava moat.

I think a cavy caught fire and ran into the pasture.

Only in dwarf fortress could that possibly be an explanation to a mysterious fire.

P.S. Obvious "somebody draw this" request by the by.

Carp!

Hippos!

Dorfs!

Digging workshops and stockpiles. Next on the list is public dorms, then superior defenses.

I actually have a lot of diamonds. I'm expecting a very profitable gem and drink trade in the future.

I'm currently in the process of replacing the older clay wall with an obsidian wall and digging the start of a moat.  This is the most dangerous part of the construction since, before I erected this wall, goblin sieges and ambushes were a daily occurrence.  I haven't had a siege in a few seaons so I expect the humans and goblins to bring their army.

So far I've made and used about 3k worth of obsidian on my fort.
I have no native obsidian on this map.

It's probably worth mentioning that AnimaRytak is the only ecstatic dwarf in the entire fort.
Quick, check him for rum! The bastard's probably spirited some off to his lair office, to act as pleasant refreshment as his evil scheme unfolds!

Finally managed to assemble a halfway-decent army without using a danger room, but a big siege has arrived, complete with crossbow goblins, giant bats and trolls. Guess I'll find out if the troops really are good enough.

Dear Armok look at all this gold! I will pave my roads with the stuff!

And Kimberlite. Delicious deep blue-golden yellow combo.

Now if only there were a chance in hell I'd find any iron ore on the map...

DEMIURGE ZZMAGE HAS BEEN STRUCK BY A FELL MOOD.
So i started a new fortress set the speed to 30 and toss in fertility drugs to the dwarfs proceeded to Carve a 7x7 moutain embark site so have giant wall around it and in the course of the game had 90 children to 6 couples. once the walls at 6 points in were completed i raised the draw bridges made it water tight and flooded the little fuckers 150 migrants + 90 fort born children and the initial 16 embark. all entombed in a large watery lake that was around 250x250x60 the world has a new lake also the switches for the draw bridges were left out side the fortress will probably visit it as an adventure and open the draw bridges and watch the !FUN! empty out. then re -embark and see how many come back as ghost.

Goblin siege actually made it inside my fort, thanks to my masons not working as fast as I'd like on getting a wall built.  Everyone's looking fairly miserable after it too, as the goblins killed a good thirty dwarves before the militia took them to pieces (they were distracted by killing Trolls at the time).  If this turns into a tantrum spiral, I may actually have to use SwordThunders' Lever of Liquid Clensing (Put a dwarf in the survival bedroom, lock the door and pull the lever.  Pressurized water floods and drowns most of the fort) if it looks like the whole thing's gonna go tits-up.
