Just had a demon invasion. Confident I could handle it, but was proven wrong when all my experienced soldiers were either sleep or getting equipment, leaving a bunch of newbies to trickle into battle and get absolutely swamped. The High gore, as usual, went out with only a Sun Gold Tower shield and was eventually overwhelmed. The Law Beast went out almost naked, and completely unarmed, and did surprisingly well before dying. Then one of my Titled warrior pikebeasts came out and killed everything in sight without breaking a sweat (which by then was only three, but still).
A crossbowman and the dungeon keeper both nosedived off the walkway down a seven z level pit. Doubt they will survive.
In effect, almost an entire squad, and a few nobles, were wiped out because everybody thought it was fine to let the untrained newbies go handle the big demon guys with pikes.

Aaaand then a naga ambush. Caught one of the vets who killed two and then died in the mob. One more newbie died with a Naga pike in his face, and then Ctharl finished off the last three. He then found and killed a snatcher and is looking in pretty bad shape. Get to the Doc's, man.

In the future, have a way to seal your fortress off long enough to mass a squad.  If a dwarf is sleeping and won't wake up at the time of battle, give them the standard noble treatment.

You know waht, screw it.  I'm gonna give these dwarves copper chain, leather hood and cloak, and a copper warhammer (except for my commander, who has steel) and send them to go kill that goddamned troll already.

Also, a bowyer just got into a fey mood.

Future crossbow for a marksdwarf captain?

Oh that would be really sweet.

I had a fey mood bowyer once. The sod made a blowgun. Which led to me trying to implement blowguns for my dwarves (in a new fort) which didn't work out.

One of my recruits, with mere dabbling hammerdwarf, just ended my troll problem.

By himself.

I think I just found the captain of my second squad.

The Forgotten Beast Liruk DŒbeshshesam Kes has come!  A huge humanoid composed of coke.  It has a round shell and it has a bloated body.  Beware its deadly spittle!
I wonder... would my dorfs get high after exposing them to his spittle?
Or would they suddenly start bi-winning...

Speaking of that, I had a martial arts dorf with no skill in any military skills beat down a kobold thief, several camels, and a GCS with their bare hands.
A shame he went melancholy after that. I could have used him as captain.

I expanded the magnetite mine and found it filled multiple screens of PURE MAGNETITE.

I have now outfitted my army with iron breastplates, iron chainmail, and iron warhammers.  Iron gauntlets, greaves, boots, etc are incoming soon to match, but for now, I need them to continue clearing out the first cavern.

Which they are doing with aplomb.

Got tons of limonite myself, was quite early in the digging down so it was nice but I can't seem to find any flux stone to make steel >.<.
Ohhh and I survived my first siege, it was kinda disappointing, only 10 humans with whips and a crocodile, 5+crocodile pet died going through 10xLarge Iron Serrated Discs Weapon Traps(little pieces flew all over :p) and the rest my first squad took them out without even taking an injury. Goblin ambushes are more dangerous...

Now I'm trying to figure how to bring magma up to my top floor for a magma smelter because I'm running out of wood to use for charcoal.
Also need to bring water inside the fortress but I'm kinda worried that I will flood everything(or burn everything with the magma :p).

I just got five more dwarfs, led by a hunter.

I just got five marksdwarf recruits for my first marksdwarf squad :D

And the markdwarf captain is using my named crossbow, hopefully it should make him happier.

Running out of stockpile space for the meat.  FPS down to the very low twenties.  Damn this antique PC.

Turn off temperature! If you're on a Mac, turn off Spotlight Indexing!

EARN THOSE FRAMES

What is this "Mac" thing you speak of?

Turned off both temperature and weather--it's a high rainfall area; that'll help, right?

Contemplating setting the little bastards to speed zero, too, even if it's just until the bedroom complex is done...

Just had to post for this...
I was wondering why my duchess was only fine:
"She was utterly traumatized by a lesser's pretentious sleeping arrangements lately."

-By the gods, his 2x2 room is even ENGRAVED! THROW HIM IN THE PIT WITH TWO DOZEN GOBLINS! I DEMAND IT!

bloody nobles!

Well, the goblins are having a great time outside, though the bowmen seem to be out of ammo, thankfully.
Things may not be all lost... The tantrums in the tower are starting to amp up, but there are a couple of brave souls still fighting the greenskins outside!
First is the Lion Lasoddolil, who killed a beserk human a while ago, and my newly-appointed hunter Rura Pabatjathbi, who mostly ignored the attack at first to chase after groundhogs.
Eventually the hammergoblin spotted him and gave chase; what followed was a rather pathetic pillow fight, with both trading blows of mace and crossbow without doing any real damage, until eventually Rura was all like, "Screw this!" stepped back, leveled his crossbow and BOOM! Headshot! :D

Now he seems to be pissed, he's running at the rest of them.. I just wish he had more ammo. ::)
