Modded game, My fortress civ has many of the same noble functions as the humans, so that they would have questgivers in adventure mode.

The king queen just arrived... bringing with her her husband, and all 15 lords and ladies from their castles.  2 of them died on the map edge when they suddenly realized they were supposed to be aging this whole time.

P.S. Did I mention the lords and ladies also brought with them their spouses as well?  My useful to useless residents ratio just took a nosedive.

Some of them also appear to have combat injuries and remarkably good combat skills, but their kills list is empty and they can't be made military.

Holy crap, and now it seems legends mode heroes are showing up too, two legendary swordsmen and a hammer lord so far, each fully geared.  And I still havent seen the general yet.

Good news is that I just didn't look hard enough in the military screen for the lords and ladies, they are militaryable.  And since the civ is currently run by a queen the 'King Consort' which I have renamed to just King, because that sounds stupid, is also militaryable.

I have a royal guard squad headed by the king(who has combat skills) that includes the legendary soldiers, and the more skilled royals.

Considering that the squad includes the king, and a number of legendary heroes, when the squad name genned as "The Mythical Laws" I found it fitting.

In other news, goblins ambushed.

I think they're doing it wrong.

Third migrant wave consisted of TWENTY useless dwarves. The farms are now twice as large as they used to be, have plenty of workers, and everything that needed hauling is hauled. Now I've got to find a way to keep them busy. I'm tempted to draft a military and work them pretty much year-round.

Edit: Before I forget, is there any way to make it so that my wood furnaces STOP using charcoal to make more charcoal with? All it's doing is wasting wood and annoying me.

Teronsuke - wood furnaces don't require fuel, they can't be using your charcoal.  Smelters then use fuel (charcoal or coke) to smelt lignite or bituminous coal into coke, and since that uses 1 fuel to produce 2 or 3 units of fuel, there's no waste.

If you can confirm that your wood furnace is somehow consuming a unit of charcoal in the production of charcoal, that would be be a bug - but I seriously doubt it.

Gearing up for a war on the Elves, they attacked me out of the blue and my little starter fort lost half its population. If it wasn't for the giant named badgers running around I think we would have been wiped out.

After the sacking of Copperabbey, an attempt was made to glean resources out of the frozen tundra, far to the north. This has largely been regarded as a bad idea.

You'll have to pardon me then. I'll do some testing with it, but I could've sworn they were using fuel, since no matter how much charcoal I made there was always only ever 1 to be found. I'll check to see if that's actually the case later on.

goblin ambush! that's alright, I'll send a group of two legendary swordsdwarves. One dwarf is eating, and 3 more ambushes are revealed as Rith begins fighting the first group. I long ago decided my dwarves would seem more badass if they only had on blue clothes - IE no metal, bone, or wood armor at all. I become painfully aware of this, and look for any injuries he takes.

Rith... you're a freaking beast. 20+ kills while wearing no armor - against crossbow+sword goblins, and the only injury is a lost meaningless "left back tooth". Twice the goblin charged, collided with you, and literally bounced off. You win good sir.

Not much other news. recruited my mechanic and miner to a squad and am training each of them with a legendary, 1 at a time. I'm still low on coal, and I'm now working on circumventing a flooded 3rd floor. Kids are starting to grow up, and I'm debating on which direction to put them. I get that luxury when I keep a low pop cap.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

I think that's less of a case of seeming more badarse and more a case of actually being a total badarse. :D

So. I had my first siege.

All I had was a Dodge-Me! trap leading to a pit 10 Z-levels deep. All the goblins ended with this message.

The Goblin Pikeman slams into an obstacle and blows apart!

I now have this vision of them exploding into confetti as they landed.
