Nothing new has been found. Still. The hunter dwarf armed with bolts from a slaughtered horse earlier in the year consistently decides he's out of ammo and leaves his hunting victims to their wounds, and maybe the hunting dog. The corpses are not being hauled anywhere, but simply left to rot. I've had a moose skeleton on the roof since embark since his first action was to shoot the damn thing in the head. I can't move the skeleton through any means.

Build a secondary butchery right next to the corpse. It helps occasionally.

waste of trees into charcoal.
Don't waste trees into charcoal!?!? Are you insane??? Use the wood to make dozens of xbows and shitloads of wood bolts. The next ambush is sure to fall at the hands of your mighty force of longbowmen crossbowdwarfs.

If I were at all capable of managing a militia in any fashion, and had more than 16 dwarves, it'd be a potential idea here.

Teronsuke: Check your preferences. {o} -> {r} -> {o} so that it reads "Dwarves gather refuse from outside".

I made an interesting observation yesterday while I was trying to build trap components without weaponable metal: Three Masterwork Green Glass Goblets are worth 720¤. A single Masterwork Green Glass Spiked Ball, on the other hand, is worth over 3,000¤ and still weighs only 2. Clear glass is worth 7,500. Gentlemen, I have a new export of choice.

Also, I had a run-in with a Giant Cave Spider that ambushed my hunter. Because it kept biting her in the head, over and over (as opposed to more immediately lethal methods), the Hunter ended up becoming a Legendary Fighter and Wrestler over a period of just ten minutes. Of course, she was bleeding profusely and unable to breathe because of the venom, so once my military "relieved" him she immediately died.

Not anymore, because my game crashed just after it had bled another farmer to death.  >:(

Apparently the bitch-bat finished this fellow by ripping his hand off. Oh well, I'll reload in a moment. This time my miner is not possessed and hopefully I can kill the bat outta hell before it rips into my population. Damn flying vermin.

This time I mobilized my militia towards it's killing grounds but it didn't attack and left the caverns. I'm gonna place the melee squad's training grounds where the killing happened now, though. Should help a bit.

I built a room for all my goblin prisoners in cages: one lever releases them, another retracts the floor from under them and they fall ten z-levels to their deaths.

It's so popular among my dwarves that they've taken to making engravings about it:

You did o r o right? I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to turn that on and just sat scratching my head while my kills were left to rot.

Good news! Migrants boosted the population of Drunkensteels to 13!

Bad news! The Beak Dogs returned and killed all but 3. My militia commander and his student managed to kill one of them, and rough up another, but they were both killed when a third Beak Dog flanked them and ripped their legs off. The only reason three dwarves made it to the fallout shelter was the herd of lambs that distracted the pack.

None of the starting seven live- I have a High Master Blacksmith who is doubling as Expedition Leader, a Miner (praise Armok!) and a Fisherdwarf who is now training as new Militia Commander, despite mediocre stats. Right now, everyone is hunkered down waiting for the Beak Dogs to leave- the Miner and Leader are striking up a friendship in the fallout bunker, and the Commander is desperately training in an attempt to get his skill high enough to defeat the Beak Dogs. He wields the =silver warhammer= that has slain the only Beak Dog to fall to our military- I pray he will be worthy of it when the time comes.

Got a migrant today that likes snakemen. I have a feeling that she won't like them as they're stabbing her body full of holes.
EDIT:In my desert fort, a giant jaguar tore apart my mason and two military dwarves like cardboard.

Good news! The caravan is here, bringing with it all the food and booze we need to survive the winter!

Bad news! Halfway through the trading, Beak Dogs migrated onto the map and made a beeline for the depot. The merchants and their guards were all killed (though they brought down a few Beak Dogs with them,) and my civilians were cut off from shelter by a wounded Beak Dog. I dispatched my military to clear the way, and he quickly splattered the Beak Dog- unfortunately, he also saw one of the Beak Dogs savaging a sheep, and decided to run over to defend it. Needless to say, he died due to limb loss.

Population of Drunkensteels- 2. Normally I'd abandon at this point, but what the hell. I'll try hunkering down until the spring migrants arrive (assuming any do arrive, since I don't know as any merchants made it off the map.) If I get elves before I get migrants, I'll abandon and then reclaim.

EDIT: Worse news! GHOSTS EVERYWHERE
