Athelo reached the cavern doors more quickly than I anticipated. I locked them, but before the bridge could be raised he came and parked his fat ass on it.
I ordered the militia to assemble by the doors. Two arrived before Athelo breached the doors, with Porksword running late and nowhere near the scene. The non-legendary swordsdwarf decided to go for a nap.
After Athelo breached the doors, I had no choice but to order an attack. Athelo grabbed the guard dog that I'd stationed near the doors. The dog bit his wing and tore it, then scratched his body. Athelo threw the mutt into the wall and killed it.
The militia leapt into battle. For a while the spearmaster decided to use her training spear, and then when that didn't work she reluctantly switched to her steel one. The brave duo tangled with the beast for a while, avoiding injury but only causing minor wounds. The dwarves took turns being stunned and coming around until Porksword showed up to help.
The spearmaster decided to bite Athelo in the wing. Athelo retaliated by biting off the spearmaster's finger. He then picked up Porksword in his mouth and shook him around until his guts started flying everywhere. Porksword is down.
At this point I received word that a miner is also down. In all the confusion I'd forgotten about the miners I locked out in the caverns. One of them decided to take on the other two beasts by himself, and ended up with a foot and leg torn off, and then his head gored.
However, he managed to tear off Maga Sathurbed's right hand and tore a ligament in Rofa's third left foot - doing better against the both of them than my legendary soldiers were doing against Athelo. What a bunch of wimps.
Looking back at the fight with Athelo, the swordmaster was stunned, and the spearmaster seems to have run away, hiding in an unused corner of the lower levels. Still no sign of the 4th soldier, who remains asleep.
A red smear appears on the floor and I see the swordmaster has been bitten in the lower body and an artery has been torn. And what's this? The swordmaster, previously using a real weapon, has switched to a training sword! Jesus H. Christ you incompetent boobs! Perhaps the creature's deadly blood causes instant stupidity?
The spearmaster returns for revenge as Athelo snaps the swordmaster's arm. However, the wooden training spear is not very effective. *facepalm*
I can almost hear Athelo laughing as he bites off the spearmaster's right hand. Oh well, at least it was the injured one. And as luck would have it, Athelo chooses the right arm again when he decided to rip one off. You lucky dwarf. Both soldiers are now trying to crawl away.
Athelo ignores the wounded dwarves and begins chasing civilians around the corridors. Despite being given another order, nobody raises the drawbridge. We're sitting ducks if the other beasts decide to come and join in the fun. But luckily my 4th soldier is on the way (finally)!
A dwarven child has his leg ripped off and bleeds to death.
Athelo returns to the entrance to finish off the swordmaster. Civilians are fleeing out of the base into the caverns. Someone finally raises the drawbridge, leaving civilians trapped outside, but ensuring the other beasts won't be joining the party.
Athelo remains inside, where he grabs ex-mayor Mr Popular and bites off his foot. He then shakes him around by the head until he breaks the skull and tears an artery. Mr Popular is no more.
The spearmaster arrives as the other swordsdwarf finally makes it to the fight, and the spearmaster decides to run away again.
In other news, two more miners have been struck down by Rofa and Maga Sathurbed, without causing any injuries this time. Noobs.
The fashionably late swordsdwarf goes toe-to-toe with Athelo. Athelo gets tetchy and swipes at a passing cat. A large crowd of dwarven children seems to have gathered around. Morbid curiosity?
Narcoleptic-swordsdwarf enjoys bashing forgotten beasts with the pummel of her sword and her shield, instead of just cutting the bloody thing. Maybe they're making deliberate efforts not to spill its deadly blood? Its the only thing I can think of to excuse their incompetence.
Athelo lashes out at a leatherworker in frustration. Narcodwarf is uninjured so far, surprisingly. I've no idea where the cowardly speardwarf is.
Hang on, Narcodwarf is carrying an artifact flask. Could it be giving her narly powers?
Ok, Narcodwarf has decided to actually stab the thing this time. In the mouth. From behind. I guess seeing the leatherworker being mangled finally spurred her into action.
Athelo continues to beat on the leatherworker while Narcodwarf slashes at it from behind. First the wings, then a stab to the heart, and then a stab to the brain! Narcodwarf slays the forgotten beast without taking any injuries. So much for the legendary guards! Trouble is, there are pools of deadly blood dotted around the hallway now. I hope that's not going to be a problem (lol).
It might be safe to let the civilians back in now. I think the other beasts are too far away to make it inside.
I found the spearmaster. He's gone to "pick up equipment". He lost his spear when his arm was ripped off. I guess he needs a new one.
I checked the announcements. Apparently Athelo became enraged while fighting Narcodwarf but still didn't land a scratch. I also lost a woodcutter to Maga Sathurbed the snowman while I was distracted.
Rofa the spider is actually closer than I thought. I might still have time to rescue some civilians though. Taking the chance...
Nope. I managed to get two dwarves inside, but it took so long for someone to open the bridge that Maga was right outside. I've shut them all out, and I'm not going out there with just one healthy soldier. They're doomed.
Well, that was interesting. It's time to train some more soldiers before going out there again. Hopefully the survivors' skin won't start melting off due to the beast blood!
