Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My first Titan/FB in this fort, and the only one I've ever seen that emanates "an aura of giving and kindness". :P

Well, I read it as Anus L... and thought diarrhea syndrome, maybe that'll be in a later version.

Recovering from a tantrum spiral caused by lack of barrels for making booze in the dead of winter. 2/3 of the population died, and the fortress is overrun by stray animals. I am building lots of tombs, a hospital, and a larger dining hall. And an indoor pond...

After a few tries, I finally got past the multi-ambush-per-month phase. The last group of goblins had their general with them, who was killed by her own troops. In fact, she lost her "general" position the moment they started fighting each other. Unfortunately, theirs was the only one to reveal themselves; I had to deal with hidden swordsgoblin and hammer/macegoblin ambushes, which cost me a hunter, and a few perma-invalids. The good news, one of the macegoblins fell into the spike pit(which didn't have any spikes yet), and broke both arms and legs on impact, before getting shot to pieces by the marksdwarves above.

Not much since then. Haven't had any ambushes since(one or two snatchers shortly afterwards, but they might have been on the map already), possibly due to the death of their general. Right now, in the process of getting spears in the pit and wooden balls on the entrance ramp to knock them in.

I just did my first controlled cave-in to kill a Forgotten beast.  It was kind enough to just sit in one spot while I dug out a few floors above it.  And my sacrificial non-miner miner channeled from the correct side too!  He lives to be sacrificed another day.

I'm currently working on improving my fortress layout and stockpile placement.

Dropped a seige party of centaurs down 6z levels into a pit filled with 2 alligators, 2 war lions, and 3 war grizzly bears. I've also been trying to improve my secondary drowning trap. I have a chamber that can be closed off via floodgates, and pressurized water in the wall that pushes them back into a stair like z level drop. Another lever lets me drain the pit into a large evaporation room when everything is dead. It takes way to long though, I need something better.

Fiddling with hospitals but cant seem to get them to work.

I've been trading for pretty much everything I need so my dwarves dont get out much. how long does it take for cave adaptation to set in?

I'm in the middle of a double goblin ambush which popped up while I had a massive lumber project going on.  12 dead and counting.  Bonus is the human caravan that chose this time to show up.  I have to build a military academy and spider holes.  Problem I have had in the past is that when an alert restricts dwarves to an unreachable burrow they won't go to another burrow they are assigned to.

Early winter of the first year at Orbclenched, a blind cave ogre came along and started beating on a herbalist.  No problem, I'd been getting critters from the caverns all the time, send in the four man militia.  Except the ogre - Squirtair the Mansion of Adventure they now call him - had a buddy, and together they tore the militia apart and rampaged through the fort with beating people to death with bronze greaves and a cave spider silk tunic.

Possibly the fastest fort I've lost to date.

I just embarked, and immediately a section of a cavern collapsed. Can this reveal anything at all? Or is it just one of those glitches from generation?

For fun and because I had nothing to do, I made an adamantine danger room (I have fifty dorfs adamantine clad, and my stockpiles are still full of it) and sent a cheesemaker in here.

Basically, he exploded.

AWESOME

In other news, at Minddoor (an FD-IM fort), I had some 4 different sieges come within 100 frames of each other.  In my panic, I pulled the bridge-dropping lever...  ...And tumbling down went 10 dwarves (It's a long bridge, OK?).  Those that survived the 7 Z-level drop were good as dead, and the Dark Stranglers came and strangled them to death.

Anyways, all of those sieges were repulsed by my long-ass bridge of death, which has claimed the lives of hundreds of besiegers.  Why, in this siege some 3 pages of White Tigermen were killed.  However, a good dozen Naga survived the fall and clustered underneath the bridge, nursing their wounds.

Once my 3-dwarf Marksman squad decided to stop shooting at them (despite the abundance of bolts--wtf?), I said "Screw it, my 15-dwarf military can take 'em!"  Outfitted in random assortments of equipment (I'd been too lazy to dig down to the magma sea and too lazy to dig out veins of the combustible stuff.  That bridge spoils me.) They went and killed them all, but in the process some 7 died due to complications from a 2 Z-level drop and a few angry nagas waiting for the unfortunate fallers.

Time to start training the military and getting steel/candy production going!

Stat--Started the sieges with some 113 dwarves, currently have a lot less...  86 or something, IIRC.

After a recent shitstorm, involving Illithids (among them, Outpost Mind Wrestlers which flew everywhere and "Nothing" Wrestlers), giant forest fires and lots of cancellation spam we have 1 wounded beyond dwarf medical science.
