Looks like the beast just left randomly...
Or could he have just moved around to parts of the cavern I haven't seen and he'll be back?

Both are possible.

A blob composed of steam is a joke. Any half competent soldier with a blunt weapon will just smash it's body with a few hits. Also i think blobs have pretty much no dangerous attacks.
I saw myself forced to fight the dust beast btw. It was a one eyed cardinal with scales. Fortunately for my dwarves the attached syndrome was very minor only resulting in serious blistering and dizzyness. Even the children survived \o/.

Just started megaproject work on a giant iron hippo. I may have to flood/lower the map to make it aesthetically pleasing.

Summer 2. Iron hippo head is underway. Drafted everyone who isn't an administrator, smelter, brewer, or militia into reducing the surrounding landscape flat. I've decided that the volcano will make an excellent eye for the iron beast. The iron walls will go up, sealing myself in from sieges, followed by many dwarf years of trail, error, death, and laughter. Not really in that order, but who knows? I may even get the mouth to open for future caravans.

Ahh, embarked on top of a small hill which we dug down into, we have water to route to farms and wells, wood and other supplies being brought in and we'll set up defenses at the top of the hill.  This is the one :)

I- I'm starting Project Chess again. Hopefully I can at least figure out the logic needed this time.

Seven years of Belltowers...minting some aluminum coins to commemorate it.  More than ever, we are prepared to face the goblins and our crafts are the envy of the civilized world.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

I didn't know that happened. Twins, yes. Perhaps it's because I'm using the Genesis mod?

Either way, project Doublemint* has commenced - the foundations are laid.

*original name was... ill thought out.

I have no idea what you mean, but I'm pretty sure you're going to hell for it.

Then again, I'm dabbling with a side mod that lets mermaids siege me, and I can capture them and milk them like common cattle.  So, you know, whatever!

My first thought was LotR "Two Towers".  I seriously had to think about it for a few minutes.

You should leave it as Twin Towers.  Put a trade depot in one, and the nobles' offices in the other.  Then it's reenactment time!

Not a chance. I was thinking Two Towers, as in LotR.

Also, I have a herd of crundles trapped in my basement! Some trees grew, you see. Unfortunately, there are FBs down there and they have no difficulty pathing over water (unlike crundles). Not sure what to do.
