Why not tie together all three?
"A paladin, noblewoman, and scoundrel walk into a bar. The warlock's gotta see this."
One: Pallies in 4e are really just mostly tanks, with a little bit of healing/controlling on the side. Definitely get whatever helps you tank better first, and then go for heals. Honestly, having played a 4e Paladin before, I was mostly using my heals on myself, because I was tanking that much.
Yeah, both Healing Hands (+3 healed 2/day) and leader multiclasses (heal 1/day) are pretty minimal as far as I can tell.
Then again, at least healing options
exist. Other than Armor of Bahamut, I'm not sure what I'd take to try to tank better. I guess Toughness (+5 hp) is technically another 17% hp at level 1?
Two: Please tell me the Kobold is a Paladin of Bahamut.
Of course! Dragons for everything!
[mathmetagaming]Well, hmm. We'll probably be hit on rolls of 11-20, so 50% of attacks hit. 10% of those hits will be criticals, for essentially double damage. That means that crits make up ~18% of damage. Cutting that in half certainly is nice.
We, have a total of (50+122+72+74+67=) 385 HP available through HP and healing surges, so a protecting ~9% of it would give us another ~35 HP, and then another ~2 HP a level. I think that's a good investment.[/mathmetagaming]
Yay math!
I'm down. The only requirement I have is that Ella stays in Norethra until she's 16. Everything else is open to adjustment.
Sounds good to me. Easy to get now that I think on this line of events. Since Ki and Art are locals (probably, I think) they could easily have met a bit before our most noble lady of war. Art would have always been a urchin as far back as she remembers, stealing and rough housing to get her daily bread turning into mugging and robbery for food and profit. Eventually she gets caught by Ki and after some fast talk convinces the paladin that she's just doing everything for her boss who she can't refuse because of his power, so they reach an agreement and Art leaves with Art to adventure and right wrongs or something. Which leads into meeting Ella
Or something. Kind of tired.
Alright, so presumably we've got our buddy cop duo wandering around. Ella shows up looking for ADVENTURE! that preferably also involves helping people. Buddy cops presumably provide that, either via Ki's paladinry, Art's not-quite-legal-ness-but-its-for-a-good-cause-have-you-met-my-partner-I-think-youd-like-her, attempting to stop the same villainy, or some other condition. Yan wanders in from his god's spirit quest, decides for whatever reason one or all of the aforementioned members are good wind candidates, buddies up with them somehow.
Maybe Yan figures a willful noblewoman on a righteous quest from across the sea is about as adventurous and serendipitous as you can get, she agrees that it'd be nice to have some help (and slippery help at that)? Then the two groups bungle each other's attempts to raid a gang hideout or something, and everybody gains a functioning party? Still need to wait for our controller to figure out how well he'd slot into this, though.
Still, hash out details and figure out the wizard, and we've almost got a coherent group backstory!
