The Operatives moved further. Still nothing. The tension felt like a snake in their guts.

Scampering footsteps sounded down the road to the east, but nothing yet emerged from the shadows. With them was a slight humming sound.

As they moved forward, a grey canister came into sight. Flecks of golden light danced around the rotating top as it sat, seemingly unguarded, in the compound. Pierre and John decided to go through a window each. The sounds of smashing glass was loud, shards cascading to the floor, but aside from the soft whir of the canister nothing else could be heard.
 
Much of the compound was visible, but not a single other living thing was in sight.
