Aaaargghhhhh (small modding issue, 31.25)
« on: May 20, 2015, 08:29:41 am »

So... I wanted to make a "shearable" domestic bird to fit in with a mod theme. All's well, right?

...Shearing it only ever produces unusable "wool".

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've tried messing with the creature's size and the shearability of its "hair". Nothing's worked. (It really doesn't help that I don't fully understand the mechanics of implementing shearing - I just copied and edited tags from sheep...)

I am not an expert at modding, but I think you will have to create a custom reaction in the farmers workshop to get the wool you need.

There's some tag (I have no idea which) that you have to add (I have no idea where.)

Hmm, i don't see the problem either ... Just to be sure, you have built a loom and tried to process the wool into thread there, right?

She has YARN and SHEARABLE_TISSUE_LAYER, so i guess there is another problem (I have no idea what) or maybe it's fine after all and there's just an ingame oversight (but who knows what it could be) ;)

(S)pin hair/wool into yarn at the farmer's workshop?

That's what I was saying. Can anyone confirm or deny?

When a new custom woolly creature is set up properly you do not need to make a custom reaction, you can spin into thread then loom into cloth just like with a normal sheep or whatever.

Yes, I also have separate refuse stockpiles for hair/bones/etc. and useless crap like vermin remains. All the shearing attempts (I tried this several times, on many different batches of creatures) wound up in the latter stockpile, and it gave me a job cancellation ("needs unrotten hair/wool item") when I tried to process it.

Does the error log say anything at all about the creature?

If you really can't find the error, I'd copy over the sheep's entire raws verbatim, then change just a few things at a time until the wool stops working.

About the only thing I can see that's in any way different from the sheep's raws is this bit:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can't think of why it would be the cincher, but it can't hurt to try adding it in.

...oh hey, yeah, I didn't notice that. I'm gonna have to try, and see what it does.

Edit:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yep, tissue layer thickness (or lack thereof) was the problem. Thanks!
