So I have 2 immortals in my forest, and they're behaving kind of odd.
The first is a weretapir. I didn't get to locking him up before he transformed, so he killed 3 people. Then he turned back and I locked him up in a 3x3 mud hole with nothing but the rotting corpse of a friend of himself to keep him company. I also believe he was naked. At first he was kind of stressy (25k I believe) but over time his stress falled and it's been stable at 0 for a long time now, without either positive or negative thoughts.
Second is a vampire who became my mayor. I locked him up with the weretapir, expecting the weretapir to kill him when he next transformed, but this didn't happen. The weretapir has transformed probably over 10 times now and he's never killed the vampire. Also, the vampire hasn't drunk the weretapirs blood. The vampire is also at 0 stress, and he's recently felt fondness after making and speaking with a friend, suggesting that he befriended the weretapir.

Just what is going on here? Why aren't they having any stress, and why aren't they killing eachother? I know that 2 of the same werebeast won't attack each other, but these are different monsters alltogether.

EDIT: the weretapir also experienced fondness after making a friend, so I'm now 100% sure they befriended eachother recently.

Were-creatures status resets every full moon. As for vampires i'm not sure.

Does that go for stress, too, though?
Also, that doesn't explain why neither of the two try to kill eachother.

I wouldn't be surprised if vampires are unable to feed from night creatures  (such as werebeasts). But I couldn't tell you why the were doesn't kill the vamp.

Vampires and werebeasts will kill the hell out of their friends. Does the werebeast sleep? I've held several werebeasts for long periods of time but I can't remember any of them sleeping. That might be because sleeping isn't especially memorable, werebeasts don't sleep or because the werebeasts transform and their sleepiness resets. Vampires may get a pass from cursed creatures, I know that undead won't bother them. I'm not sure but it seems like the werebeast might leave the vampire alone because it's a vampire and the vampire might leave the werebeast alone because it never sleeps.

Werebeasts don't sleep. Their drowsiness is reset to 0 every time they transform, so it never builds up enough that the werebeast is forced to sleep.

Sources: Kept a werebeast penned up in my fort for 10 years without food, water or a bed.

Anyway, OP: dump a pick into the containment cell. That's literally all you'll need to make your fortress immortal. Everyone may die, but the vampire will be able to construct slabs and wall them off from the werebeast, meaning your fortress will never die. Unfortunately, this may change in the next version, so abuse it while it lasts.

Can confirm, werebeasts don't need sleep. This is important as vampires only attack sleeping creatures (with one clever overseer discovering that any creatures rendered unconscious could be fed on, even with syndrome induced unconsciousness). I'm unsure as to why a werebeast wouldn't attack the vampire, perhaps they are both counted as night creatures and friendly?

As for the immortal fort idea, you need to put the vampire and the werebeast in a cage to ensure immortality. Providing the creatures don't go insane and berserk, your Fort will last forever as long as the cages can't be reached by anything. Ghosts can't even kill them when they're in a cage.

I think Melancholy or Stark Raving Mad are fine but berserk dwarves are no longer counted as citizens.

This. I have werekangaroo locked up in the old temporary hospital in one of my old forts. I locked him in there with a pick. He is a legendary miner with legendary discipline after all the combat drills. Also no stress, despite missing a shirt.

Do werecreatures reset insanity on transformation? has anyone ever got a berserk or melancholy or stark raving mad werebeast?

I had an insane weregecko that was always insane when he transformed back.

Alright so I get why the vampire doesn't eat the tapir, but I'm still not entirely convinced that the tapir doesn't eat the vampire because it's also a night creature. Last time I checked the wiki said that werecreatures will attack other werecreatures, but not their own kind (that is, a weretapir would attack a weremammoth but not another weretapir) and the vampire isn't a weretapir, so I don't see why the tapir wouldn't attack the vampire.
Also, don't vampires get negative thoughts from not being able to drink? Or from sleeping in the bloody dirt for that matter?
