She pats each on the head and retreats to her hiding spot behind that potted plant over there continues to stand between them.

Having confirmed that the 2nd floor as indeed the same layout as the 3rd John heads towards the ground/1st floor. Unless he's interrupted he'll probably find the (un)common room first.
