I had university for most of the day and some other writing work to do. It's also pretty late but if you say so...

Roll 18

[Luck: 6] The balloon isn't being sucked into the vortex because it's in a turbulent region just above it. However, your air bubble that you use to fly around will disturb the turbulence and cause you to either send yourself or the balloon plummeting into the depths. It's not possible to go for it directly. You could try shifting the winds, but there's too much energy present to neutralize it entirely. You could strengthen it, though, or change its position somewhat. perhaps you could suck the other balloons inside while you're at it.

Your Inventory:
2x Gas Sifter
2x Aerostatic Balloon
Chromatic Staff (Unique spells that are multicast cost 25% less affinity that turn.)
Lesser Mana Potion (x19) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x4) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Antimatter Catalyst (x5)

Michel (Pancaek)

"Friend, if I am correct, it is only 3000AD right now. My name is Michel, by the way. A pleasure to meet you."

If you do not interject, he explains.
"It's good to see ya pal... in space. You can call me Jackson Aurelius Periwinkle, or just Perry for short. That ain't my name in truth, but my host died around... it's 3000 you say? So he died a few decades ago, at best. Now, whatever you do, don't open this capsule or you'll spill my brain-goop out into the big freezer."
His skin seems to be capable of changing color... and morphing shapes. His head grows a miniature trilby and his featureless body (which you assumed to be some kind of plugsuit at first) morphs into a sleek, black, stylish suit.
"I'm a living ghost. The genuine real deal. Other ghosts're just echoes in the matrix, but my body is made of logic crystal suspended in ferrofluid. As long as I got power, I can move, talk, and I can even eat unlike a regular ghost, though it ain't much help. Problem is I'm stuck in this tube. Also, my host got brain cancer and couldn't finish me, so he hid me out here to wait until Man's "Coming of Age" or some other futurist talk. Technically he's me... but sometimes I really think he'd gone crazy. I still got my head, you know? Say, you don't look like you need life support... am I already obsolete?"

Your Inventory:
Travel Kit (A bunch of items that you can channel through. The glasses grant you DiseaseVision)
Lesser Mana Potion (x25) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x3) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Seeking Dust (x5)

Spoiler: Michel (Pancaek) (click to show/hide)

Tafaw (Urist Arrhenius)

See Coolrune206's rolls for info

Your Inventory:
Pressure Suit (A suit decorated with a silk shawl, made of many metals.)
Lesser Mana Potion (x22) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x3) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Morphic Dust (x5)

Resteroth (Coolrune206)

Leave the bats be. They know what they're doing. But if this newcomer attacks my pet, don't swat it. Simply pull my pet closer to my body in a protective stance.

[4] You shield the little bat from harm's way. The attacking bat looks angry and flies a few laps around you, but then gives up and returns to the swarm.

The swarm itself is clustering closer and closer together. The bats inside don't even seem to be moving at all, they've stuck together like some sort of meat puppet.
Eh, you've seen stranger things.

Your Inventory:
Masks (A set of masks used to express yourself. You can modify sound waves and visual stimulus coming through.)
Lesser Mana Potion (x27) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x3) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Antimatter Catalyst (x10)

Naira Adverio (H4zardZ1)

You can presumably see because of the lights. They run because they are receiving energy. You can draw energy from the lights, but if you draw too much you will blow the electrical fuses.
Take energy from the cables. I'm doing it for taking carbons from steel, but make sure that i invade the steel walls with the jet fog first.
If i cannot move while doing this: Do it without moving.

Invading the steel ceiling, it now obeys your command... although steel doesn't have much of a brain. Still, it makes it easier to manipulate.

[2][4] Separating steel and carbon is a modification of an external form, but since you've invaded the steel beforehand, you control every atom. This is Construction. Although you're technically destroying the steel and splitting it rather than merging, you're actually merging the steel with the energy needed to separate the carbon from its bonds to nearby iron atoms. This merger, much like the fission of heavy nuclei, is destructive in an intuitive sense. This is only possible because you have access to the object's form (it's invaded). Otherwise you would have had to resort to macro-scale redirection to do it.
You are now left with a pile of coal and a weakened ceiling.

Enter the door.

The door lacks a handle merely opens inward automatically when you step toward it. The inner area has a warning signal drawn on the floor over the path of the door as it opens... and it doesn't open all the way. Something is blocking it.

On the other side you find some sort of control station, with alien glyphs displayed on a transparent glass screen (further evidence that this is an advanced society with bad materials science). It appears to have a list of "Ongoing Missions," which is blank, as well as selection features for various probes and shipboard instruments.
on the opposite end of the room lies a locker surrounded by a pool of hardened blood. Judging from the splatters on the walls and door, there were a couple of high-velocity impacts which caused at least some of the mess.

Your Inventory:
Jet Fog
Lesser Mana Potion (x20) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x5) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Black Dust (x5)
Coal x12 kg

It looks like things here might turn bad. Take metal compounds from the walls of the spaceship around me, and materialize a sword in my hand using them. A sword made of spaceship metal. Preferably, the sword will be a longsword with quite a bit of artistic flourish on it. Wield it in my primary arm, and continue to watch the swarm.

Is there mana in the vortex? If so, take the mana away to decrease the size and or mass of it.

There is mana (this whole planet has traces), but as is the case in most natural environments it is in nowhere near the require concentrations to actually manipulate it amidst the noise of the surrounding environment. It is possible to manipulate distributed mana within interstellar space because there is absolutely no stimulus to throw the mana molecules off course and disrupt their functioning. When dissolved in other forms of matter, however, mana becomes inert and can no longer be controlled easily. Hence why you can't control a circumstellar ring even if it has mana inside it. You must isolate it.

Mana hardly comprises any significant percentage of the air mass anyway. That's why you're trying to track down the air sifters--those are designed to concentrate the stuff.

[5] What you CAN do, however, is use your powers to activate the air sifters on the balloons already in the vortex. This concentrates it and allows you to manipulate it into your hand. While this doesn't decrease the mass of the vortex by much, you did get yourself a few potions out of it, so it's not a total loss of time.

Three orbs of mana flow into close proximity and form vial-like shapes, the outer layers hardening and turning into crystalline form.

Gained +2 lesser mana potions (vortex is now depleted)

Your Inventory:
2x Gas Sifter
2x Aerostatic Balloon
Chromatic Staff (Unique spells that are multicast cost 25% less affinity that turn.)
Lesser Mana Potion (x21) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x4) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Antimatter Catalyst (x5)

Michel (Pancaek)

"I wouldn't say you're obsolete, Perry. I still need life support, but I'm capable of creating my own. I'm a Space Wizard, after all. Why did your host create you?"

"Why did my host create me? I was created with my host! In our society, each and every boy and girl gets a self-aware logic matrix bonded to them at birth. It ain't quite a copy of them at that point, but as the youngster grows up they become one and the same. Rather creepy, if you ask me.
"If you're instead askin 'how did I get to my current form,' then the answer is I experimented on myself. That is, my host and I agreed to make the modifications. But of course he died and I never got to the point where I could leave this tub. Its a sludge made of magnetically active nanomaterial that bonds to the smartmetal platelets I use to think and act. When I think, it moves. It can't hold together under its own gravity, though.
"If it were less dense I could have a life. I'd be able to walk around and talk and actually do things. But sad to say, the materials technology of this time isn't up to snuff. I was hoping that in a hundred years the antimatter shipments would have you know, propelled us into a new stage of understanding or whatever. My host hid me here cause I could plug myself in and hack the transmitter to get someone to pick me up. It's got a manipulator arm somewhere in one of these ports..."

Preferably, the sword will be a longsword with quite a bit of artistic flourish on it. Wield it in my primary arm, and continue to watch the swarm.

[6] The sword comes together, but something about the hull isn't right. There are holes and pockmarks in the material. Somehow you miscalculated the material properties in your head. Then you realize the problem. The radiation leaks transmuted some of the atoms in the steel, giving it unexpected properties! The sword is otherwise close to the initial specifications. It just looks like it'll snap in one hit.

They better not be using that old video game strategy of "Many little things come together to make one big thing"

...by the time you can fix your issues, the swarm of bats coalesces into a human form. The being emerges from the cloud, wearing a black suit and a long, flowing, sinister cape made of bat leather. His face is pale and grey, and his hair is extremely old and resembles the root of a plant. He looks a lot, but not exactly quite like those creatures you sometimes encounter called "humans."

"I greet you," the sinister-looking being starts, "With tidings of hopelessness and despair. The being you saw before has just given its life to bring myself into this world. My minutes too are limited, for every time I change forms, I die and am reborn. What brings you here? Did the residents send you?"

Slowly move while getting energy from cables and getting carbon from the steel.

You continue sweeping the walls until they are black as cast iron, wrinkled as foil, and surely unable to withstand any sort of pressure differential from now on. Fortunately these are internal rooms, unconnected to the outer hull.

Beside you is a massive pile of coal, having squeezed every last ounce of carbon you could from the premises.

Greater Mana Potion (x5) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)

Drink a greater mana potion, and compress the vortex into the bottle.

The mana in the vial disperses into the air as you drink it, spreading out into the vortex, controlled by your mind. Despite all odds, the winds flow into a spiralling corkscrew of condensed air, dragging all the balloons with it and trashing the UAV's attached. The mana itself is consumed, but you are left with a literal hurricane compressed inside a bottle, plus the rest of the balloons in your general vicinity. The demolished UAV's start falling deeper into the atmosphere.

Gained Hurrican-In-A-Bottle
Gained 3x aerostatic balloon
Gained 3x gas sifter

Hmm, the diseasevision reveals that he is dead. Or at least that you are looking at an 'inanimate' object. This human mind is suffering from the problematic condition of not having a human body.

"Magic? Hmm, well I believe it, you floatin' through space and all. If you could make by substrate lighter, that would solve a lot of my problems. The problem is I don't know what you'd replace it with. It's gotta be conductive and have a magnetic field. Do it wrong and I'll be a talking pile of dust. But in all honesty... I reckon you got a better chance of helping me than people in the future. So I give you permission.
"The beacon, though, bad idea. It's a Terran beacon. I figured that with the antimatter we Colonials would have toppled the Terrans and taken Titan back. I really am kinda miffed that you woke me before then."

Travel Kit (A bunch of items that you can channel through. The glasses grant you DiseaseVision)

"Question: Residents who are? Interesting concept. Death to create life? Life death creates? Who residents you speak of? What is purpose of vessel? What is identity of you?"

The figure wraps his left half in his cape.
"A curious one, indeed. So you are not one of the residents of this ship? They come from a cluster we humans call the Pelaides... very far away. I infiltrated the ship long ago and turned their drones against them in order to provide room for my experiments, although they attempted several assaults on this section. I had to introduce a memetic complacency thoughtvirus in some of them to make them desire order and stability, but these infected personnel were quickly branded traitors by the rest of the crew and killed horribly. They've devolved into tribalism since, although in all honesty their life support should last forever. I certainly won't let this ship go to waste.
"Myself, I am called Vlad, as are my predecessors and my future successors. I specialize in a form of life extension... though not exactly. I study long-derm divarication and information encoding. I seek a way to transform bodies without transforming minds... true immortality, to say the least of it. I wish to create a lifeform that can change its essence, one that does not become obsolete with time. Life and Death are necessary components of evolution, but I wish to remove Death from that equation."
