((You are aware that the primary thing that makes "dark" matter or energy "dark" is just that humanity hasn't figured out how to detect and measure the stuff, and we are only able to measure it indirectly... right? it's not some keyword for 'magic-does-whatever-it-wants-stuff'. it's just really hard to find.

this is why I prefer my magic to have vague or unknown mechanics - typically focusing on the end result instead of the method that result was obtained. the more you make it a system the less it works as actual magic. But if you're going to limit me to physics-based-magic, I expect other mages to also be limited to physics-based-magic.

I'm willing to accept that rifts make stable holes in reality, and that those holes can be stable in relationship to a local stellar object (a planet or sun) but not that those holes can be mobile and bouncy in relation to an object without an outside force acting on them. yet you said in the turn that there is no outside force acting on them, and that they just naturally are tracking my character with no energy input. I'm also unsure how there were curving heat beams without an outside force going along with the beams to provide the curve.))

I said in the turn that they are following you, not that there is no energy input.

I think the problem is that you are assuming something unknown doesn't exist.

Your character cannot intercept energy she is unaware of. Thats how the rules have worked this whole time.

how can I become aware of it if I'm holding the object being given input energy and actively checking for it and don't even get a chance to detect it?

Because magic doesn't magically detect energy use. You need to use your senses. To you, the orbs appear to be moving of their own accord. Obviously they're not, but you're not familiar with whatever method is being used. You declared war too early to learn.

DbZ - I cannot play when the NPCs get to cheat this blatantly. I will be waiting for a reason to continue playing before I bother to write another action for this game.

Oookay. Since you're really not getting any of this, I'll explain what happened.

The funky orbs are portals leading to the two planets (one's surface temperature is 300 K while the other is at 350 K). The heat coming from them were your lasers. Marie shot you with your own beams while you were busy staring at them to try and "drain" them.

You can't "drain" them because Marie can't "drain" the energy you use to move your chains around. Balance. Not cheating. You can transmit energy through the chains let's say, while Marie is transmitting it through the tunnel in energies you aren't able to see.

Marie also has a ridiculously high redirection skill, so she can naturally cast a bunch of stuff at once. What do you expect from a person who told you upfront she's been modifying the system for a thousand years? That's like a beggar walking into Rome and challenging Romulus to a duel.

Roll 16
Spoiler: Starmap (click to show/hide)

((Note that italicized words in your character sheets can be hovered over for additional info))

Alexandreus (Yourmaster)

"I am a lesser god, if you would like to compare my powers to something else. My power comes from the energy around us which forms naturally in space clouds, called mana. One day, I shall find followers, and I will bring forth their people to greatness."

Old Man: Our people do not believe in such things, although I am now inclined to say otherwise. My people believe I am dead, though I have survived, and merely become stranded here. They will no-doubt honor you as a hero along with myself. Perhaps you can teach us your ways to uplift our society into a new age of understanding?

There are three balloons left:
1 Balloon is next to a security drone. Due to damage to the drone's target-recognition system, it will open fire on anything that isn't like itself.
1 Balloon is impaled on a fast UAV that avoids obstacles, including you.
1 Balloon is caught inside a permanent atmospheric vortex that sucks things deeper into the clouds. Should you approach it, it will drag you into the depths and threaten your survival.

Your Inventory:
2x Gas Sifter
2x Aerostatic Balloon
Chromatic Staff (Unique spells that are multicast cost 25% less affinity that turn.)
Lesser Mana Potion (x19) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x4) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Antimatter Catalyst (x5)

Michel (Pancaek)

((No action))

While wondering what there is to be done, you can't help but notice some memetic patterns occurring in the encapsulated man's expression, indicative of meaning. [3] Decoding them and altering the information content to be more understandable, you gain the ability to read his expression, although not his language. You'll have to hear it to decode that.

From his expression, you judge he is discontent with his current location, and desires to be taken aboard a station or a colony. He looks in the direction of Titan, but as far as you could tell there was no civilization there to speak of, just a low-gravity freezer.

Your Inventory:
Travel Kit (A bunch of items that you can channel through. The glasses grant you DiseaseVision)
Lesser Mana Potion (x25) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x3) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Seeking Dust (x5)

Spoiler: Michel (Pancaek) (click to show/hide)

Tafaw (Urist Arrhenius)

See Coolrune206's rolls for info

Your Inventory:
Pressure Suit (A suit decorated with a silk shawl, made of many metals.)
Lesser Mana Potion (x22) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x3) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Morphic Dust (x5)

Resteroth (Coolrune206)

Try to befriend the little bat. Give it a pat, stroke it. If it remains aggressive, then ignore it. Killing it will probably send the rest of the bats into a blood-bath to murder me. Enter the region that the shield opened for me.

[6] It hisses territorially at your hand [1] and tries to gnaw your finger off.

Not killing it was probably a good idea. The rest of the bats don't swarm you as expected but simply take up residence on the vines and growths on the wall and control panel.
There's some sort of dust coming out of the opening in the nuclear shield. Nothing sinister, it's just what would be expected from a space filled with lifeforms for a couple dozen years.

Tafaw takes a close look at one of the bats.
"They're surprisingly fast and agile. I bet they have a food source in there. But I know no lifeform that's evolved to feed on nuclear energy. Someone must have smuggled some life support units inside the reactor, for whatever reason."

Your Inventory:
Masks (A set of masks used to express yourself. You can modify sound waves and visual stimulus coming through.)
Lesser Mana Potion (x27) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x3) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Antimatter Catalyst (x10)

Naira Adverio (H4zardZ1)

"Not as i excepted, through there's still something."
Go to the radio source.
Edit: Check arcturus.

Arcturus is another giant, although you do pick up radio signals from this one--huge, resolved ones too. You think it's some sort of message. [1][3] Altering the information content as it arrives, you deduce that it roughly says:
"THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN" Hm, poetic. But the context is unclear.

The radio source turns out to be a spacecraft, and you end up arriving just as the other two travelling objects have disappeared. You thought they would be spacecraft that docked with the primary, but you don't see any attachment points for spacecraft, nor hangars. In fact, the primary seems very small for the amount of radio noise it's emitting. It must be either a really high-tech ship... or it's just channeling most of its power into transmitting.

There is an airlock with a hatch on the outside. The other airlocks don't seem to have one. You can enter inside or you can stay outside, perhaps find another route inside. The engine bloc appears damaged by an explosion.

Your Inventory:
Jet Fog
Lesser Mana Potion (x20) (Consume to negate 1 point of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Greater Mana Potion (x5) (Consume to negate 10 points of negative affinity in a stat for one turn)
Black Dust (x5)
