Seems to be more based on its reputation than any explicit ability. The main advantage is the whole "one hit one kill" thing, which isn't too rare in terms of legendary/mythological swords, the main ones coming to mind being the unwieldy spear thing, and that thing that was meant to kill a group of people each time it's been used.
