The most amazing thing about the katana is that it works.
They had to study for a long time to make a sword that actually survived a battle or two (the old designs broke in half because the steel was brittle due to it's hardness).
Though they could've just done pattern welding, like the vikings did, and get better swords (balance the hard steel with soft iron, to make a good monosteel blade).

I'm fairly sure they did have to do all sorts of tests to make sure a sword would survive more than a battle or two. Cutting into the bodies of criminals and all that.

But seriously katana are not nearly as awesome as most people who like katana think. Yes, they had a surprisingly advanced method of forging the blades themselves... Except their steel was terrible so they had to have a pretty good method just for it to not produce complete garbage.

Want a REAL sword, you get yourself a Damascus Steel rapier, shamshir, or something similar.

Really, if you want to make something made of a supermetal and can't use actual magic metals, fucking Damascus Steel. Those assholes were so hardcore they somehow managed to forge their steel in such a way that the carbon used to make it turned into nanotubes. We have no idea HOW, just that that's what happened. Weapons made of it are the next best thing to indestructible.

... Seriously we should probably have a mechanic in play for voting to progress to the next day so that this hangtime doesn't happen while we wait for the GM. though he'd need to actually do the post, that'd tell him when people want to move on.
