The issue was that the larger part of the characters weren't powerful enough.

...Actually, with a school that takes everything from trainee mages to... whatever Ether is, a power-limiter might actually make sense. Not saying I'll use it, but it's an interesting idea.

But still, that wouldn't help... at all, with the plot. And I got around it by changing it so power won't be in any way needed.
