every update is the best one ever, otherwise Toady would be going backwards.
If it wast better than the last he wouldn't release.
If you go by relative the last one I must say the first Z-release...

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST RELEASE EVER!

I don't get it. I have this version on my computer right now, but I downloaded Dwarf Fortress like two months ago and never again after that. O_o

You can keep yourself up to date here and here if you don't mind some general spoiling of new features.  The next release, when it happens, will be announced here in this forum and at the second link as well (which also has an RSS feed).

I'm really impressed with how steadily you've been jamming through your list of objectives, Toady.  I'd love to hear some more about how you go through your design process.  Do you flow chart everything, or are do you just sort of freestyle everything into place, or what?  Can I come over and sit behind you at the computer some time?  I'll bring cookies.  I also bake a mean chicken.

There are some things that should be put in before other things, and I have lots of notes to that effect in my notes for the dev items, but I don't have a strict chart I'm working with for the entire game.  On the other hand, once we've decided the general theme of a release, I think about how it should be realized and then keep an ordered list of goals in my workshop file, about 40 lines or so for each of the stage on Future of the Fortress.  Displaying the stages up there is new, but that's pretty much how it's always worked.  There's also a ton of overrun and ideas that don't make it in due to time constraints, and those get moved to the bottom of the workshop file.  When I've got time, they get categorized, numbered and turned into dev items for the web page.  There are a few hundred of those waiting now starting from around the beginning of this year.

Like many who play this game, I am addicted to the dev page. Each morning at work, my only happiness of the day comes from checking the most recent update on the current development page, and my day is really sunk when there's no updated.

Toady, can I request that you post more images or movies while you're developing? They are really fun to watch, and I've been reviewing the road and territory screenshots many times already.

There's nothing for what I'm doing right now.  Most of the world gen stuff won't yield a lot of visual media, though I'm hoping to put up some histories as soon as it can produce something adequate.

There are people who don't frequent the dev pages?

Part of the reason I love Indie and Open Source projects like this is the transparancy in development. The community has a say in how a game they like to play is developed (in some more than others), and it's often that an update is a step up in most of your current playerbase because of it.
