I'd just like to point out that the title "DF Patreon" could be confused with the Bay 12 patreon (although I certainly have no objections to the one discussed here).

It's not exactly a pitch. Meph is probably around as fast as I am, and I've released 19 mod updates in the last month. Hell, in the last 10 hours, I've made what is easily 5 updates worth of material (ignore the vanilla files), plus released an updated DFHack script.

...and i don't get any money for all this :I Imagine what Meph can do with the promise of a carrot.

I've see that a lot in your comments over the years. You seem your own biggest enemy sometimes.

If I look at the modding sections, you, deon and me generated most of the content. There are lots of other people with 1 project each, but we three have created lots of stuff. Any of us could be supported. The only issue I'd have with each one having a Patreon would be the competition, I wouldnt want to introduce a hostile work environment to modding. ^^

Toady is doing his thing (fine), Peridexis is managing Starterpack/Utilities (fine), Captn_Duck is doing videos (fine) and I wanted to do mod/comic (fine). No clashes of interest. If there'd be multiple modders asking for donations of the bay12 community, I think it would be best to do it as a team. One Patreon, Putnam, Deon and Meph. Support not by monthly donation but by goals: Per creation. If the "Epic Bay12 Modding Team" gets $200 a month and you make 3 releases, I make 1 release and deon is too busy that month, than you'll get 150, I get 50 and deon gets 0.

I guess I'm just kind of worried about appearances. When Deon and I got our own boards, narhiril brought up a point about feeling overlooked and under-acknowledged, arbitrary lines etc. and she was damn right about all that, which is a large part of the reason that I decided to get rid of my board (that combined with the fact that it wasn't helping with feedback any). I don't want something like that to happen again.

Mmm.  I personally find the transparency of one-person, pay-per-month fundraising quite important - everyone can see how much money is going where, and avoid perverse incentives to release tiny things and change for it.  Plus anyone can set up a Patreon, since it's literally just a fancy donation button as many of us have had for a fair while already.

Yeah, you guys are probably right. I'm just throwing around ideas. I'm also curious about the poll, because I still have to properly distinguish between comic and mod.

Nope.  Multiple accounts are a real pain, since the platform isn't designed for it.  Instead, you could set a dollar reward for each project, and allow people to select which they wanted you to work on.

Hey Meph, I must say I really really have enjoyed your masterwork mod. I really enjoy a some of the themed massive overhaul mods, I would personally love to see more steampunk esque mods like warhammer 40k or starcraft, though i also really really appreciatte a lot of the small dfhack plugins etc, i'm not sure if you've done any of the ones in the LNP pack. A personal request would be an easy way to add your metals and weapons and perhaps the accelerated foods to the vanilla maybe along the lines of "run this program point out the right folder and automatically edit all the raws." Thank you so much to your devotion to this awesome game!!

Meph has not done any of the plugins or scripts in the LNP, or indeed any at all. Thanks these people (plus likely others who haven't bothered to put themselves there) for that.

I think people sometimes mix up writing the scripts with using the scripts. There are lots of them that exist, but no one but me uses them.

Out of curiosity, what would you use to make the comics? I'm wondering what tool is easiest to draw using tilesets.

Part ingame with cheats (fastdwarf etc), part workshop draw, part photoshop.

Larger setpieces ingame, because I can easily reload them and change color schemes and tilesets, detailed setpieces with things that I cant control ingame in Workshop draw, and even more details (aka stuff that doesnt happen in DF, but I want to do for artistic freedoms sake) with photoshop.

In was also recommended this tool: http://www.mapeditor.org/ but did not try it out yet.
