For 4-players games, I can recommend Jamestown (a very good-looking shmup) and Sonic All-Stars Racing (a Mario Kart-like from Sega). These two games work well with Xbox 360 controllers.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I'd also personally recommend most of the lego games as being fun to play locally, but they are a bit pricy usually.

Lego Racers is pretty fun, if you can get it anywhere nowadays.
I'd also reccomend Castle Crashers, if you like beat 'em ups, and UQM.

Definitely check out Towerfall Ascension and Chariot. The first is both competitive as well as cooperative. Chariot is just amazing as a 2-player local coop experience. Seriously, RPS had an article about how amazing it was a while back. Basically you use ropes to move a coffin-on-wheels around so that you can get gems and things and get to the end of the level. It's great

I've also heard good things of Magicite. And also, Pixeljunk Shooter is fun.

Also spotted on .co.uk and .ca. If none of those are good enough, I'm sure there's individuals here in one of those that would be willing to re-ship at cost.

On topic: any of the Worms series (well, from Armageddon and earlier at least) is hotseat and fun, and I think configurable to use gamepads. AHK will work if not, since there's not a lot of controls to map.
Also, freeciv, and apparently Civ4, can do hotseat.

Countless other older classics are hotseat capable as well. Almost any game that has multiplayer and is turn-based is easily hot-seated.

Some better clarifications as to what you're looking for would garner better results. (i.e. simultaneous, single monitor, genre, etc.) "Local games" is rather ambiguous.
If you're looking for simultaneous games that are single screen and gamepad-intended, then you might be pretty limited. Mostly fighting games I would think.
If you're looking at games that are LAN compatible though, just about every multiplayer game will work.

Yes I'm looking for games on one pc. Basically 2-4 players with controllers on a TV. Keyboard + mouse is also okay Worms is a lot of fun and we've spent quite some time on it already!
I'm just looking to see if I've missed any great games
