Recommend me good local multiplayer games for PC
« on: May 13, 2015, 10:16:58 am »

Like the title says, I'm looking for good local multiplayer games for PC. Preference would of course be that the game supports controllers, but anything goes really. Free or paid doesn't matter :)

Nidhogg is a good one.

If by local you count LAN you can't go wrong with Quake (1 IMO) or some free arena shooter.

LAN is sadly not an option. Nidhogg is awesome and I'll have to try pax and dogfight. Thanks for the suggestions and keep em coming!

Personally, I loved gang beasts. It's a lot of fun playing with others.

Second BroForce.
Nuclear Throne is a pretty fun topdown 2d bullethell game - pretty hard and gets a bit repetitive though. Monaco seemed as though it would be fun but I found it painfully easy (really, too too easy).
The winner DEFINITELY is Risk of Rain though - fantastic game and procedural enough for you not to get bored. I played a good 3 hours of it straight with a buddy.

If you're going to be doing it alot I'd recommend getting something like MAME or another arcade emulator and playing some of those games - some of those are fantastic. Be warned that some are a bit difficult/nearly impossible to play with a keyboard and mouse though.

Have they patched the network multiplayer play in that game yet? I seem to remember trying to get it working with a friend a few months back and we couldn't get a connection working.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - A fun zombie survival rougelike that I'm dev-ing for.

Unsure I'm afraid, I just played kb and joypad. That worked ok, although there seemed to be a problem using two controllers at a time. It was also a little bit wonky at times when it came to remembering the config of stuff, I had to use joy2key in the end

I don't think I've ever heard anyone NOT complain about Risk of Rain's multiplayer.

I loved it local! There are some pretty good co-op tactics in it as well if you've unlocked the different characters. Playing as the enforcer and the bandit makes for two completely different (and complimentary) playstyles. The only issue is that it can get a bit tricky to see what's going on at the best of times, and two players on a small screen makes it reallllly difficult when you get loads of stuff coming at you
