Got it.
-Moved Labor Team A from C1 to C3.
-Assigned Naval Team to C1.
-Assigned Electronics team to D1.2 POAC Variants.
Feel free to change the assignments if you can think of something better.

Spring and Summer of 1937

So, after what may be the quietest New Years celebration in the records of the Department (Not for lack of trying, they just coudent invite asmany people this year), work started back up.

First up, for whatever reason, we have the Gun engineering team and their redesign of the AATSM1933 'HiLo'. Dont give me that look, when you are totally redoing the mechanism and ammo its a redesign. No, seriously, dont give me that look. I got enough of a headache from the team itself, and I dont need you to make it worse. Half of them made the silly thing.

Well, needless to say, it was a rather quick job on their part. After taking one of the older versions of the HiLo (From before the autoloader was added), changing the loading mechanism to use a horizontal block breach, and then working out munitions, we have the C-F-M1937 'LoGo'. It has a lower range, slightly lower weight, very slightly lower RoF, and requires a combined crew of six. Its also worse in most respects than the ATHM1933.

Spoiler: C-F-M1937 'LoGo' (click to show/hide)
Oh, they said to tell you lot that you better get someone else to redesign it next time.

And now, the Electronics team, because why the hell not. They, along with the Materials team, where tasked with creating varients of the POAC-B for a number of things.

So, first up on what they managed to make, the POAC-B-C, which is a PAOC-B with the passenger area chopped off and left open, which makes the whole thing look rather odd. They also installed a small crane for offloading cargo, along with various other cargo related guff.

Next, we have the POAC-B-C(F), which is what you get when you install a armored fueltank to the cargo variant. The crane is still there, and is rigged up to refuel stuff. Sadly, the extra mass of the fuel tank has slowed it down some compared to the basic cargo variant. Due to the work needed to install the thing it requires eigther being built in the factory or a fair wack of time in a workshop, so dont think of it as being an instantly swapable thing.

Third up, we have the POAC-B-M, which is a POAC-B with an EAM M1932 thrown into the troop compartment, along with some ammo storage.

And finally, the POAC-B-C, which is what you get when you take a 87.6mm field gun and dump it into a POAC-B. Armed with the ATHM1933 due to the smaller version of the HiLo not being ready yet, the vehicle weighs as much as the PAOC-H with none of the armor. It does contain that big-ole gun designed for use in a tank though.

Spoiler: New POAC Variants (click to show/hide)

Next up, we have most of the Materials team, sans the three dudes they sent to the Electronics team who where told to bugger off, wandered into a bar and spent the rest of the period drunk as can be.

Anyways, they where put to work developing a system of bodyarmor and carrying equipment for infantry in combat. Which, despite having three people working on it, they somehow manage to do. The resulting items, which are under the loveley general headings of E-I-W-M1937 and E-I-V-M1937.
Spoiler: E-I-W-M1937 (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: E-I-V-M1937 (click to show/hide)

Next up, the Aeronautics team gets to work on a new interceptor that is designed to dogfight instead of boom-and-zoom. The I-P-M1937 is... interesting. After the team managed to get two Hurricane engines working together they went and created their monstrosity. But, hey. It has tons of cannons in the nose, and all that extra engine power let them add in some armor... Hell, it has more armor than some of the PAOCs. Its pilots are already calling it the flying tank. In addition, the design team appears to have been drunk and on something... Interesting, as the aircraft's seat can be ejected from the craft, which solves the problem of bailing out and not getting chewed up by the prop.

Spoiler: I-P-M1937 'FireStorm' (click to show/hide)

And now, on to the world of construction. First up, we have the naval team, who was put to work on building that 1k ton drydock for that naval factory. Despite having no idea how to do architectural stuff, the managed to get it done.

Next up, Construction team 1 and Labor team A where put to work on a four line large arms factory within the giant complex-o-production. Which they get up and partly running. However, the two lines they did manage to get tooled where nabbed by the Council for the Republicans. Pricks.

Construction Team Two was put to work creating another four line monster in the complex, this time for munitions. They managed to get most of it tooled before midsummer, and the council dident grab any of the lines for Spain!

Finally, Construction team Three and the Fresh Meats where put to work creating a new factory complex! On the otherside of the capital, but still. Infact, its built right next to the airfield. Anyways, they managed to get every in the place tooled up, and, once again, the council hasent done squat to them. Amazing.

Speaking of the council and all the wonderful things they have done, they approved your request to buy more shotguns from the Americans. Sadly, the Americans are out of that particular model of shotgun. They do have plenty of their Riot variant, which lacks the bayonet lug, swing swivels, and the heat shield. Still want them?

And now, to keep things mostly moving around, we have news of the war!

With the loss of the offshore strongholds of the nationalists and the influx of men and materials, the Nationalists are, in some places, reeling.
In an effort to halt our forces they forced a naval battle, which has caused the Goby to be brought into drydock for repairs. Heavy cruisers are nasty.
In the air, the first units of Baklan bombers arrived in Spain, and proceed to inflict heavy, heavy damage to Nationalist positions. During this time a number of aircraft where lost, normally when they where hit by flak while diving. Enemy fighter aircraft typically cannot keep up, and so resort mostly to attacking while they are climbing after their attack runs, which have caused a few more losses.
In addition to our bombers, a number of the I-C-M1936-MK2's that have been made by upgrading what MK1s we had in service have been sent to Spain inorder to take care of bombers, something which they are rather good at. The low range is a massive hindrance though. In addition, the aircraft are near useless in a turn fight, but when you have all that speed, well, why bother turning?
During land combat this year we learned that anti-tank guns are the bane of the POAC's existence, though they dont often manage to hit. In addition, our T-18s where withdrawn to our lines after three where lost to anti-tank cannon fire during an attack on Oviedo, which is now partially captured by the Republican forces.

C-F-M1937 'LoGo': Wow. I mean, I know we used the HiLo as ship armament, but I had just assumed it to be non-optimal for artillery use. My goal was to design a cheaper and more optimized for the artillery role. Well, it definitely failed in the latter, and with three produced per turn compared to four for the HiLo, it also fails in the 'cheaper' part. So, produce the HiLo instead.

POAC-Bs: Very nice. We'll need to assign different production lines to the -C and -C(F), right? Also, the POAC-B-C seems fairly useless for now since the enemies we face are not yet fielding tanks we can't kill with the POAC-H's cannon. Once they do, we need a new tank design anyway.

Infantry equipment: Nice. The Facilitators are definitely important to produce. The Vest is interesting, but probably not really usable in Spain. On the other hand, our island is fairly cool...

Interceptor: The result seems very nice. It should perform better than the previous Interceptor  basically every role.

Council: Stop stealing our goddamn production lines. We need them for building more artillery. On the other hand, the vehicle production factory is very nice - we'll be able to retool it for POAC-B-C and -C(F)s.

The War:
- The Goby took on a Heavy Cruiser and made it back without being sunk? That's very nice. Can you give us some more details on that engagement?
- The Baklan seems to performe very well, though it's vulnerable during diving. It'll still be necessary since non-dived attacks are very inaccurate. We might design a rocket for attacks on Flak-defended positions, though.
- The Tornado (I-C-M1936-MK2) seems to perform better than expected, except for the low range. We could develop drop-tanks if we decide to continue producing them.
- We were still using T-18s? Whoops. Immediately withdraw the remaining two and put them in a museum or something.
- With the POAC being more and more vulnerable, we might think about using our 87.6mm AT gun to design a new (actual) tank around it, relegating the POAC-H and -Ls to infantry support and transport.

Requests:
- For the longer-ranged weapons the naval arm would like we probably need a new, larger ship to avoid building a destroyer armed with a single 400mm cannon. This'll be very expensive. As an alternative, we could look into a longer-ranged torpedo, or use Baklan in its intended role.
- Tell the armored arm they have a replacement for the T-18. It's called the POAC-H, thankyouverymuch.
- Tell the council they can just send off everything we have. It's not like we need it or anything. Really. Go ahead.[/sarcasm]

This turn's priorities:
- Radar for the ships. Allows us to avoid cruisers and coordinate bomber strikes, for example.
- A tank
- Production lines. Don't call them that, we don't want them stolen again. Specifically, more long arms (for artillery etc), more planes, retool the new vehicle line to POAC-C/-C(F).
- Anti-submarine weapons
- Maybe a ground-attack rocket?
- Oh, and we can use this turn to design the new rifle they've been asking for.

Questions for Asea:
- What's the effective range for the HiLo in the artillery role?
- Do we have a carriage for the HiLo allowing use as AA, AT and artillery gun?
- Did we do some mock dogfights between the FireStorm and the Tornado?
- If we assign the Vorishka to the naval factory, we'll build one (well, 1.5 due to specialization) per half-year. Correct?
- Details on the Goby's performance against the cruiser, and possibly about the cruiser as well?
- How's the Baklan performance with level-flight bombing accuracy?
- How does the Tornado (I-C-M1936-Mk2) perform against enemy fighters?
- Do we need to do anything to fix the Bychok?

Spring and Summer of 1937

Cannon-Field-Model of 1937 'LoGo'
Worse than the old 'HiLo' Cannon in almost every way.

New POAC Variants

Ok so we have taken the POAC as far as it can go but it cover almost every role we need it to.

Interceptor-Pusher-Model of 1937 Firestorm

If you want to see what it looks like, It looks like this thing
I was useing the Henschel Hs P.75 as a base, i've always found the rear booms  look ugly.
On to the Design it's self, it's  fast, well armed, reliable and can take a pounding.
It's not as agile as other planes but as long as we dont get in to turn fights it's speed and armament will make short work of anything.

Variants wise a ground attack model would be useful, refit the front with twin or just a single 35mm+ cannon for anti tank use.

A new pure tank is a good idea, the POCA is at it core a wheeled infantry transport.
A new large Submarine armed with heavy duty deck guns? a bit of me wants to build a corvette sub.

Yeah, we really need longer ranged subs to counter heavy surface combatants, since I doubt we have the resources to go for a larger fleet of ships or heavier ships in general. I mean, we have that new drydock right? Let's use it.

[...]

Like the POAC's gun, for example? That being said, for now I'd prefer modifying the basic Firestorm to include hardpoints for rockets and bombs. This way, we can continue manufacturing the Baklan and the Firestorm and use the latter as air support once we've succeeded gaining air superiority.

Quote
Lets work on a new rifle for our army.
Sure. My preference is a fairly light, semi-automatic carbine; recognizing that most infantry firefights are at less than two hundred metres distance and that weight and rate of fire are very important.

Quote

Despite my first impression, we do not actually have a gun for it - the ATHM1933, while described as the "tank gun for every occasion" lacks the muzzle velocity to be effective and is apparently a howitzer(??). So, we need at least a gun and an engine, since the SDE M1933 is significantly less powerful than what we need.

Quote
A new large Submarine armed with heavy duty deck guns? a bit of me wants to build a corvette sub.
Definitely not. A primarily gun-armed submarine's only use will be against merchants, possibly corvettes, but since every hit has a high risk of ruining the pressure vessel, and armouring is difficult, it's not going to be very survivable.

I do like it. However, I'd have the following modification proposals:
- Add a snorkel for underwater diesel use, reducing the vulnerability to surface attacks
- Optimize the streamline for underwater movement instead of surfaced movement.
- Lose the HiLo deck gun, using the ammo storage for more torpedo reloads
This modification presumes that the submarine operates mostly underwater (especially during the day) and uses its torpedoes as its main armament. Due to its loss of the deck gun (due to streamlining) it will be forced to expend torpedoes on merchants travelling alone, but will be significantly less vulnerable to airpower (until the proliferation of high-resolution radar) and slightly more effective against convoys.

What, exactly, is the ATHM1933 again?

Awesome!
I've added a small correction to the propulsion section.
Generally, a snorkel-equipped submarine uses the diesel most of the time, which is during cruising. However, when attacking, using the diesel produces significantly more noise, making it significantly easier to detect. Therefore, it only uses the e-motors and batteries during attack.
(I may have played Silent Hunter III for quite some time...)

We still need to consider a new rifle, one with a smaller round than the 7.62x54mmr round. Something for use for POAC squads too, so maybe a folding/retractable stock and considerably smaller than the Mosin Nagant. I'll put this out there, I suppose. Feel free to modify it or put something else forward.

I do not currently have the time to research a proper round, so I'll let you guys think on that until i'm available.
