We really do need a navy just because we are the unsinkable aircraft carrier doesn't mean we aren't the unshellable aircraft carrier amd our islands are small enough that every thing it in shelling range.

Massive cannon to counter shell any one?

If we build a pair of ultra large long range guns we can disrupt any naval forces with the threat of counter shelling.

Given the size of our islands we'll need gun with a range of 20,000 meters or so to cover the entirety of our islands.
The good news is that is well within the range of a large battle ship gun.

Massive cannon to counter shell any one?

If we build a pair of ultra large long range guns we can disrupt any naval forces with the threat of counter shelling.

Given the size of our islands we'll need gun with a range of 20,000 meters or so to cover the entirety of our islands.
The good news is that is well within the range of a large battle ship gun.
While Shore Cannons are useful and something we should look into, they don't actually keep us from being blockaded, as the enemy can just lurk out of our range and then shoot any cargo ships that try to do any trading when they leave that range. To prevent a blockade, we'll need naval assets of our own.

Submarines are a good thing! They're just harder to build and more expensive then cheap patrol boats. And less visible a deterrent. (It's also harder to make them into a viable anti air asset.)

We need this one because we can't allow ourself to design engines for everything. Neither we should try to create good engines. Operable is what we need.

The key word in your statement is 'A single'. Of course we need more then one, just like we'd need more then one gun or tank or shore battery.
And how are we going to support that many destroyers? We will run severely over our naval force limits.
