Will Save the World for Gold!

I recently discovered this webcomic through a friend.

It shares some characteristics with Goblins, but it uses Pixel Art. It is less appropriate for those of smaller age, and is more centralized around comedy. Happy reading.

I thought the 4e aspect to be more funny.

I am somehow reminded of the 4e marketing videos which were... actually all very funny.

It feels like 4e comic made by someone with only tertiary knowledge of it... Which SHOULD be more funny (hey sometimes getting things wrong can be hilarious)... but somehow isn't.

I guess what I mean is... I don't know I am reading it and I see jokes that should be funny but I am not laughing.

-Note: Don't worry... The law of bay12 is whenever I say I don't like something... It oddly makes people MORE interested in it.

"What the hell are you doing?"

You my man have never read the Bard's section. (which honestly the fact that none of the main characters is a bard is a lost opportunity)

True enough on that, hah.

I'm still going through it, but... mm, I'm not really pinging any character archetypes among the main cast that are either fresh or interesting enough takes to get invested in. Except the kobold, the kobold is great. The warforged might end up being interesting, as might the Reasonabledin and sorcerer (albeit in a different way), but the eladrin Warlord is, frankly, the most boring "LOL I'm so evul" character I've seen in a long span of webcomics, and I'm not certain why. It might be the lack of commitment.

Honestly, that's the thing. None of the really great webcomics that started with jokes about gaming or tabletop gaming became great solely on the back of their jokes -- all of them developed plots independent of (but still working alongside) the humor, even ones like Bob and George. That's what I'm hoping to see emerge from this pretty soon.

I was wondering when Bay 12 will stumble on this. I have been following this for a while now.

Mm... yeah, I've got it RSS'd. I, uh. I haven't checked in on it since July of last year, though. My feed tells me I'm 219 strips in arrears >_>

Elf dude is actually more interesting than he starts off as, imo, it just takes a loooong while and some backstory before that starts fleshing out. At least with the last point I checked. It seemed like he actually wasn't that evil at all at least compared to his family :V

And yeah, the kobold's great. The unlocking scene with the spirit critter was faintly amazing. Owl/kobold interaction earlier on was nice, too.

I think it does a good job of characterization and plot and, well, using the humor obliquely rather than hammering it with a nail. More "this is so stupid" as an aside when they're doing something as opposed to a page and a half of gawking at grapple rules or whatever. I'd heartily recommend keeping with it. Even the Eladrin gets better!

That's good to know, thanks! Yeah, I wasn't meaning to say it was bad -- that's reserved for the likes of DrowTales -- but rather a bit bland going in.

I used to read this, it's not bad although I prefer OoTS, and whenever I see the eladrin I think it's a she not a he.
