I have a conundrum for you
« on: May 09, 2015, 08:39:27 am »

Here, we can see my Speardwarf claiming to have all his gear;
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And here, we can see he is missing gauntlets, boots, and helm (greaves & weapons are on the second page of inventory). Dwarf Therapist thinks so as well.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I am rather stumped.  I can make more gear, but why would the military equipment screen show everything available?

the tick means 'has access to' not 'is waring'

Also, if you ever figure out why poets/bards/dancers just randomly start butchering people/getting butchered, please don't fix it, I love never knowing when a dance party will turn into a slaughter.

I had it that my dwarves would not equip armor as long as they were still wearing normal clothes.
So, when designating a new squad and their equipment I'd first set it to "replace clothing" and then when they equiped their armor I'd turn it back to "over clothing".

Ah, that explains it.  Which I suppose begs the question; Why is my stupid Dorf not retrieving is gear? :-\

Because he is set to equip over clothing not replace clothing. Probably still wearing cloth gloves.

You have your uniform set to "over clothing" so he won't equip anything that conflicts wih what he has on already, ie useless clothing. Set it to replace.

...which causes them to wear pure armor, unfortunately, but once they've stripped, the 'over clothing' setting should work again.

I think gloves are okay.  Mittens on the other hand...

Also:  If you have a dwarf who acts the opposite of the others -- wearing armor properly while the others strip down or vice versa -- that one has a labor like mining or treecutting still enabled.  It conflicts with military uniforms.

There is nothing wrong with a dwarf wearing only armor, as long as the uniform contains full coverage it will not cause stress.  The added defense from cloth items is negligible in fortress mode.

Edit: Damn you to hell Corona688.  Freaking 2 seconds.

Derp, I missed the setting for that squad.  Ok last question; How do armored Dwarves avoid chafing without cloth underneath? :o

I suppose the real question is, how do they wear an entire dress under a set of platemail?  The world will never know.

You're missing the big picture.  Why is my male Dwarf wearing a dress at all?  Plus fluffy wool mittens and boots... thanks a lot Corona, now I need to bleach my brain :(

Dwarves aren't dimorphic.  To figure out a dwarf's gender, one must ask.

It seems to be random what clothes they end up with on embark, though.  My last fort started with a complete set of dresses and didn't have the know-how to make shirts.

My guard captain is currently wearing a dress, but then again, he has a bronze halberd stuck in his leg, and doesn't sppear able to think, or forget, is experiencing everything he has ever experienced after a certain point right now, and requests meaningless diagnosis every 4 seconds. So he's understandably confused.
