As a note, a legendary animal trainer is a *bad* thing for this as is having expert knowledge of a species; you want an idiot training things for domestication. What happens is the child inhertiants the mothers training. My legendary animal trainer masterfully trains, and the end result is they don't go semi-wild until after they've grown up.

Pen your animals in an area designated for animal training and your animal trainers will keep training trained animals, keeping them at masterful level. I have never in 30 years of training animals had a baby grow up before it was trained.

That would have been good to know before hand. At least I still have a breeding pair of all the stuff I want to domesticate. Does a pasture work or does it have to be a pen?

My GCS has a nickname, and I just read that ones with nicknames act differently ... any advice there? This is the first time I've really tried to domesticate anything; usually I just wait for the elves to bring me breeding pairs of stuff.

How did it get an nickname? I've got 7 named GCS that killed various goblins and humans and they don't act any different.

I honestly don't know. Unfortunately, it appears I accidentally tamed it since the last time I did anything with it. Since tamed GCS don't appear to shoot webs anymore according to the wiki, I think this spider is useless to me.

Yay . I have bad luck with GCSes. Usually I get tons of FB quickly, but in this game, they've all spawned in cavern 2 and 3, but they're both fire beasts. They go down with a few hits, but when they go down, they go up in a fireball and I get !!dwarves!!. I'm not confident I've gotten my marksdwarves to not charge into battle so I'm setting up a ballista battery to deal with the problem since ballistia FINALLY shoot straight if fired by a legendary seige operator.

I've had five FBs show up in hell where there shouldn't be FBs to begin with. Three died to demons pre-Hell Bunker, one died to flinging itself into a pit with its dust, and one more died to demons after I finished the Hell Bastion.

I've also got a croc with webs in the first cavern that has killed two other FBs. I can't get rid of it. I haven't been able to use the first cavern for years.

But despite all that, I still have 7 caged FBs. Only one is from my first cavern trap, I dare not use it against the croc since it relies on webs. The rest are from the third cavern, which has to use live bait because of the lack of water in that cavern. An FB will always choose live bait over a building as long as the creature has a land path to the target.

That piece of lore goes all the way back to Boatmurdered in the 2d version.  Now that training has quality levels, I think it's finally obsolete.  I've seen no reports of any properly trained animals running amok.

I know I caught some draltha that were absolutely COVERED in battlescars from my marksman shooting them with 7 bolts a season, and they didn't seem hostile once trained.
