Labyrinth

Inael. You cry in anger as your first blow lightly connects, scraping the creature - and you make another, even more ferocious strike! Lump of flesh gives you a clear hit on its body - and you finally cleave it, though halberd stops near the middle, unable to hack sturdy bones.

Fleshthingy is dead. In addition to the training your skills received, you get [2 xp] to raise them more.

Sukro. Maybe, you've made a slight mistake choosing to go straight? Anyway, after a dozen minutes, nothing of interest occurs.

Arena

"Arrrr!"
Concentrating her powers, Pyro roared - and, somehow, it took effect! Although spell had exceeded her own resistance a bit, resulting in shaky hands, ape was blown from inside with a great force. Somehow, despite coughing blood and his own flesh, Phobo launched a ferocious counterattack, shooting two arrows simultaneously. The second one bounced off armor, but the first pierced demidragon's thigh. Wound was not very deep, but still painful.

Salsacookies, you're good to go.

Half of the fight with flashthingy was lost due to computer difficulties, but I may post leftovers.
I decided not to post fights until asked to, as they are quite a headache even for myself, although I'm getting better at understanding and simplifying my own system.

I would like all my fights afterwards unless stated otherwise or it's too much trouble. It's really interesting for me to see the rolls behind the action.

Pyro:
> Finish him off with a final explosion before casting heal on my thigh

Sukro:
> Continue on the straight and narrow, getting suspicious of the blandness. Maybe I'm trapped in some sort of looping corridor?

+1 to Dodging and Halberdier.

Examine the fleshthing's corpse. If nothing interesting found continue walking.

Labyrinth

Inael. Finding nothing of interest in this lump of flesh, victorious human walks away.

A few fleshy corridors and two empty rooms later, he finds a pedestal made from, obviously, the same fleshy matter, on which a stylized hawk mask is laid. Something tells Inael that this mask is harmless for him - more like advantageous! Still, even despite this feeling, should he try mask on, take it or leave it be?

Sukro. A slight distance ahead of you is a small room, filled with young trees. Carefully observing the room yield no danger, but something tells spider that it's not like that.

She looks away and looks back - only to be mutually surprised by the unicorn that came from the other corridor. The beast seems quite aged, it horn bleaked, white skin dusted... Wait, is it a green foam coming from its mouth?!

Arena

Pyro. Demidragon raises her hand and commands:
"Explode!"
For one second, nothing happens. Then, ape's eyes buldge and, suddenly, he explodes, blood raining onto everything close and, especially, on the female demidragon, which is soon covered in gore from head to toes.

Phobo becomes a rain! Pyro receives a battered sword! Pyro receives 4 additional xp! Pyro receives a new spell!

Healing wounds proves a bit difficult, as she can't calm her shaking hands, clearly strained by overuse of the magical power.

[Healthy; Shaky hands (-2 to precise actions)]

"Your next battle will be... Against Giant or a Ratman."

With that, a blood-covered grassfield finally falls to silence.

Spoiler: Pyro rolls (click to show/hide)

Do we get breaks between arena fights? Do I get to select the skill I get?

Not long enough to do anything meaningful. You can take longbow of Phobo, although it's pretty damaged.

Actually, my mistake, a spell, not skill. And nope. Feel free to distribute bonus xp, though.

-) Competent Explosion (Violently explode proper reagents or slowly combust organic from inside) (0/7)
-) Adequate Word of Power: Explode! (0/5) (Roll against Willpower, wills target to explode)
What's the functional difference between these two spells exactly?

Pyro:
> I choose the Giant. Spend 3 xp to become adequate at Rapid Magical Recovery. Spend remaining 1 point on Explosion Magic skill. Take longbow and arrows. Spend what time I can recovering my Magical Stamina/Mana whatever you want to call it.

Sukro:
> Don't move. Cast Invisibility on self. Cast mind control on unicorn, suggest it go into the room up ahead with the trees.

EDIT: Edited turn, took the longbow.

With Word of Power you can explode anything. Ghosts, shields, stones... Simple explosions only affect organic/powder, while it's quite easy to defend against them - for example, by Blocking (Tower shields work the best). There are also some other subtle differences, but you'd better explore them by yourself.

The more power you draw, the more catastrophically things would go for your body from overuse. So you'd better hope to recover before the fight.

A hawk? Sounds familiar.

Wear the mask. Hope it doesn't kill me.

I'm confused as to what you're referring to here. Also a note that I edited my action to include taking the longbow.

That seems counter-intuitive, Explosion combusts the organic from inside, meaning it can bypass the surface of the organic, why would shields block it?

*Checks Arena Entrance*

Oh, it wasn't that I get to choose my opponent, the two are currently fighting and I face the winner. Ah.

So wouldn't I get time to rest then while they're fighting?

EDIT:

Explosion: 6+4+2-1 = 10, perfect
So that's 6+4(Magic Attribute)+2(Explosion Skill)-1(???)

What's the -1 modifier?

Labyrinth

Inael. When you put the mask on, [10] for a moment you feel like your consciousness splits in half. A few seconds - and you adapt to the strange feeling. The thing is - you see like you normally would. But at the same time you gaze at the Labyrinth from above, easily seeing through the ceiling. The picture is chaotic and you can't really concentrate on one place for long, but that is enough to understand - the Labyrinth itself is alive. You see how it modifies itself. A walls erupt from the ground and vanish again. Monsters come through the holes in the floor - only to be eaten by the earth again. It's bizarre sight, but you're more than fascinated by it.

Seems like exploration would be a lot easier now. Do you wish to continue wandering the flesh section of the labyrinth or would you like to go to the other one? (Just name existing one or describe one yourself)

Sukro. For a moment, beast seem to gaze deep into your core, but soon it loses interest in a strangely shaped stone on the ceiling and, suggested to return eating leaves, easily complies. Easy, eh?

Arena

Ronald Bones. Giant tries to shove the ratman from the arena, but small thingy proves to be too dexterous for that to work. Enraged, Ronald parried the clumsy swing - and cut pathetic creature in two with one slash.

Ronald receives no xp for Ratman. Ronald receives magical club (Dmg:+2, Acc:-1, Parry:-2, ignores armor)
"Victor! You shall battle with demidragon next!"

Ratman's rolls: 3,2,2,2

-1 is Chainmail. Could have been -2, but you've lucked three times. Not that this would change much, considering two 11 in a row.

Thing about explosions is that you need direct eye contact for them to work. "He's behind this shield, so I wish him to spontaneously combust" simply would not work. And maintaining prolonged contact while your target constantly hides his bodyparts behind the shield is quite difficult. Smokescreen would work as well - you can't explode by hearing or smell (but it's perfectly fine to do by touch).

As for overuse, if you'd get 12 while on present stage of "Wildly shaking hands", your hands would explode as well.

Ah that explains it, since I was confused by armour statlines.
Quote
Armor: Chainmail (Def:2, +3, -11/2)
So the first def is subtracted from damage or something? The +3 is added to defence rolls or something? The -1 is ??? the 1/2 is something related to speed?

I should definitely write this down... Oh well:

Def: serves mainly as armor level indicator. It also affects how much abuse armor can withstand and how hard is it to penetrate. Arrows won't bounce off leather armor, for example. Chainmail is more reliable - even if defensive roll is the same, the impact would be different.

+3 - is a straightforward defensive bonus that you receive against certain attacks (namely physical).

-1 1/2 is a total penalty for wearing this armor. It means that half of the time you get -1 to rolls (Acc, Magic...), half of the time -2. Mobility bonus/malus, if it differs, is written as such.
