Nope, they can't. My bad, when I say "All except..." rookies are automatically excluded.

Will there be an in-base thread?

Nope, this would count as in-base thread.

All the sidearms say "All except"

Whoops. That's because Gunners don't have sidearms and Rocketeers have the Rocket Launcher.

Pistols and Machine Pistols can be taken by rookies.

So, I guess John Rogers is out of the game?

He's wounded for 22 days, whereupon afterwards he's free to return to combat.

I thought he got promoted though? He killed a sectoid and survived his first mission. Well, barely.

No, he didn't kill a sectoid, it was Adriana who finished it.

Promotions are irrelevant to wounds.

There's two kinds of HP, kinda: armour HP and actual HP. If your tac vest gives you 1 more HP, and you only lose that 1 HP, you won't have any wounded time. If you lose 2 HP, you'll have to recover in medbay for a while, and the time taken to recover increases the more you lose. If you're incapacitated, you'll have quite the time to heal.

This would be a very good time to point out that if the squad has a Medic on board with the Field Surgeon perk (which they can take at LCpl rank, right after Specialist), then they can greatly help get wounded troops back in the fight ASAP. Medics with Field Surgeon confer a 75% chance that soldiers who took exactly 1 damage over their armor limit won't have to spend any time recovering from wounds at all -- although they'll still incur fatigue as usual. Any damage over 1 is guaranteed to put soldiers in the hospital, but having a Field Surgeon around grants that same 75% chance that the recovery time will be greatly reduced.

And as a nice addition, having more than one Medic with Field Surgeon on a mission turns that 75% chance into a 100% chance. Considering how many wounds we seem to be taking, it might be a good idea to level up a Medic immediately just to pick up this perk.

Field Surgeon is 100% as of B15e, so there's no need for a second.

That said, Steadfast is awesome if you want to go psi.

Has anyone ever tried this and made it work:  Battle Medic with Rapid Reaction, running into a flanking position against 3 or more enemies and Overwatching with a shotgun, then scoring multiple kills in a row when the enemies try to run for cover? I'm considering that, actually. It seems like it'd be a seriously killer combo when paired with an HE grenade to blow up the enemies' cover first. Hell, you could even run right into the open and Overwatch, because almost never will an enemy be ballsy enough to stand still and shoot you from an exposed position. The one time I've seen that happen was an EXALT Elite running into the capture zone on a covert extraction and taking a shot at my SHIV -- and actually hitting the hair-thin fence it was hiding behind.

I want someone to run the Site Recon mission with such a Medic, and tell me how good 3 Overwatches a turn with a shotgun is against 'lids. Seriously. And it only gets better when you grab Opportunist.

Heh... plus, if you're the type who thinks of the game in terms of flavor, then your Medic overwatch-killing multiple enemies at a time (even moreso if you managed to do it after triggering Ready for Anything) is sure to look very good in a story. Like, Terminator-good.

Well, first of all, overwatches on Site Recon are a bit risky, because the Chryssalid pod leader got Lightning Reflexes. You also have to be careful with flanks, because if you're just around a corner, the alien also got a flank on you and they might choose to shoot instead.

And of course, you need to make sure to kill them, so you need to be quite close.

All in all, it could be incredibly effective, but quite hard to pull.
