The sun had never reached this far down.

Like a great beast, it crouched far below the soil and stone of the British Isles. The surface was guarded secretly, by quiet cameras and watchful guards with hidden weapons. Drop down the metal gullet of the lift shaft and you would find yourselves in the guts of mankind's defence.

New supercomputers blinked online in gleaming labs. Robotic arms came alive with electronic hisses in subterranean workshops. Fighter craft and a bulky skyranger sat dormant in their hangar alcoves, ready to launch at a moments notice. Barracks, briefing rooms, storage and armouries under lock and armed guard, all with shining new metal walls and bright LED lighting.

A small room, with a blank wall and a small table. A place to remember the dead, for there will be dead. The sun had never reached this far down.

The remaining soldiers from first contact and others considered trustworthy and skilled enough by arcane algorithms and covert surveillance had been picked up in the dead of night and shipped in, knowing not who took them or where they were going. For some, the briefing they received when they arrived was bizarre, unreal. For some, it merely confirmed what they already knew, or was accepted with stoic faces.

The briefing for each always ended the same way.

Welcome to XCOM, operative.

High above Sheffield, a large object hovered slowly. Silently, slot opened on the bottom. Metallic, boxy shapes moved into position before with a sudden clunk they were fired down towards the city below.

The devices slammed into concrete or ploughed through rooftops, smashed into houses and factories. Tendrils of green lashed out and snared any unlucky enough to be nearby. Dark shapes dropped to the ground, impossible heights nothing to the alien technology.

In XCOM HQ, an icon began blinking on the Hologlobe over the UK. Alarms began blaring. The skyranger was prepped and readied for launch, the soldiers hurried in.

"Alien abduction activity detected in: Sheffield, United Kingdom."

The Commander tapped their lip in thought, calm amid the chaos - the base frothed with activity like an anthill. Was this some kind of warning, or message? Regardless, XCOM had to respond to the first threat they'd encountered. The Council was watching.

It was time for battle.

Pick 6 soldiers for tactical mission: Alien Abductions in Sheffield, United Kingdom.

If you mean a SHIV yes, if you build one you can field it on mission, and anyone can control its movement.

In, unless you want to give those who didn't participate in the test a chance

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Actually what I had in mind was more of a "voting" system to decide who goes on the mission, to make it more fair to those not within my time zone :v

I'm actually wondering when we get to choose our gear? Also PFC Alfred Ashworth votes for himself!

You can pick equipment when you get picked for a mission. I'll leave some time for that.

Also any player can vote for up to 6 soldiers for now.

So we get six votes or 1 vote toward the six slots?

Actually, can I suggest we for a queue for going on missions? People can skip out, if they want another mission (or a different team mate) and go on the next one, but generally we'd all go about the same number of times.
