Okay here we goooo.

Briefing Room of Fighter Squadrons, ISFc Germania:

The commanding officer in charge of fighter squadrons entered the briefing room, where a small number of rookies was sitting at their desk, all tense and slightly sleepy. After all, it was merely 0430 hours, and they weren't even the night shift to begin.

"At ease, rookies." The officer said, starting the holographic 3D projection of few local systems; zooming on the Meriscus - Periscus connection.

"At 2300 hours yesterday, we have lost contact with ISRV Challenger, the scientific vessel that went on to observe and study the Periscus Pulsar, per regular schedule." The officer pushed few buttons and the projection of a pulsar - a glowing purple sphere - and a small research vessel schemating, replaced the map.

"As you might know from the Academy, Pulsars severely disrupt subspace and gravitic stability in the system, not to mention skewering with sensors and communications at regular basis. It is not uncommon to lose contact with a vessel in a pulsar system. However, when a pair of pilots from ISFc Tannenberg, sortied to find the vessel and entered the system, the contact was lost with them as well. That happened 0118 hours today. Because Tannenberg has been sent to resupply few cruisers returning from training exercise at Eta Carrianis system, the HQ of Imperial Sixth Fleet have ordered Germania to dispatch a search party for both the scouts and the missing Challenger." The projection was terminated with a push of a button.

"That's where you boys come in. You shall perform a jump to Periscus Pulsar system, take a quick look, and report back. Our engineers have shielded your comm units so that the Pulsar should have less disruptive effect. In case you find the Challenger, or the scouts - or the debris of the missing ships - report to us immediatelly. Do not linger in the system too long, because the disruption resonance in your fighter's systems will gradually increase. Even if you do not find anything, jump back to Meriscus after half an hour, so we can declare the ships lost. Any questions?"

"Given the coalition border is a mere two jumps away, would they be trying to attempt a salient through there? And how long does the communication disruption from the pulsar last roughly?" Samix inquired, a little bleary-eyed from the early awakening.

"Only one ship have ever went from Londonis all the way here to Meriscus, as trying to cross two Pulsar systems and the subspace tunnel between them is a suicide. Rebels might be resourceful but there is no way they would attack us through there. Our scientists say that when the pulsar wave hits, the disruption lasts between 15.2 to 18.9 seconds."
